If I had to pick just one recording of the Ballade, I'd have to go with good old Artur Rubinstein (I've got it on vinyl). I also have a relatively obscure recording of the Preludes by James Tocco, my teacher at Indiana University. (There's a recent youtube clip of Tocco playing Ravel which is really awesome.) I've also heard a recording of the Fantasie-Impromptu that I really really like by the Russian pianist Yevgeny Kissin.

Most of my Chopin collection is a mix of Rubinstein, Andre Watts, (very nice), Emile Pandolfi, Cyprien Katsaris, Van Cliburn, (whom I saw play Chopin in Jersey), and Martha Angerich. But my favorite would still be good old Horowitz. I still have to listen to Sohatexas's cuts, but I'm kinda rockin out right now with SRV! Jersey girls are the best, by the way.., I married one..
