Hi I'm a newish user. I'd like to put in a request to id a movie but can't start a thread. Do I need to do anything first?

Sections have sub rules, If you mean classic movies, here is a link to their rules

When you visit any section, check their rules, It's probably because of the minimum 150 thanks received (by you) preventing the new thread.
