It was already too late. The bastards already had their hooks in too deep to change the flow. I hope and pray that our young people can reclaim their country, but fear that ecological and financial collapse will remake the world even if human beings manage to survive the catastrophes.

This was written a long time ago and probably needs revision (and I have rewritten it just a little), but I think he explains very clearly.

As far as astronomers can tell, the number of stars is infinite. To the very limit that telescopes can reach, there are stars and more stars with no sign of an end. These stars are grouped into huge collections called galaxies. Our Milky Way galaxy contains something like 135 billion stars.

- How many of these stars would make a suitable sun? – if we are looking for stars that have earth-like planets, we should only count stars between three-fourths and one and a half times the mass of our sun. Even so, this leaves about seventeen billion stars in the correct mass range in the Milky Way alone.

Perhaps one planetary system out of every 27 belonging to a suitable star will include an earth-like planet. This means that in the Milky Way there may be as many as 600 million earth-like planets. But if we then ask how many earth-like planets have developed intelligent life forms, this is impossible to answer.

Still, suppose that since the origin of the Milky Way, only one life-bearing planet in 10,000 has managed to develop an intelligent form of life. Even so, that would mean no less than 60,000 different intelligent life forms existed in our galaxy. And, of course, there would be hundreds of millions of different life forms in the universe as a whole.

That leaves only one more question. – How many earth-like planets are close to us? – There’s no need to guess here. The answer is simple: none!
