Mediafire got spooked big time.
They were always on the periphery with great service, but looks like those days are ending.

Almost every other filehost is licking the ass of Paypal except Mediafire
who told them to take their business elsewhere

Didnt strike me as a filehost that was afraid but they certainly have an agenda
No doubt spurred on after their FBI testimony in April

That is to stop search engines like files tube google indexing their links
To nobble links used on forums - they've started on planet suzy

The latest free user downgrade is designed to weed out the over users of their generous free unlimited accounts

I'd bet their corporate customer base wont even flinch at the changes

Default Filehosts increased speeds

I suspect both these below will disappear without warning at some stage

DEPOSITFILES

I noticed a week or 2 ago when downloading there is now a 2nd option
to download UP to 10 times faster by simply watching a 30 second Ad.
Effectively making the wait time - 90 seconds countdown plus the captcha

Thinking it was a gimmick to sign-up for premium I bypassed it

Turns out it is actually a legitimate 2nd option for free users to download

Just make sure you disable your ad-blocker and make sure depositfiles is allowed in no script
or any script blocker your using as this will effect the option being made availabe

Currently downloading 528mb - speeds between 400Kb-750kb where usually they'd be 150kb

edit

I will point out their major weakness is once you've downloaded a large file theres a long wait for the next...528mb = 3hr20mins till next download...its a one off

RAPIDSHARE

Return to premium speeds for free users
from 30kb

which is very mediafire like
multiple simultaneous downloads...
had 8 going yesterday

Some have surmised this may be a way of finding the accounts which contain copyrighted material...We will know if more large rapidshare accounts get closed this was the possible reason for the increase in speed

Default Trouble shooting inaccessible file / image hosts

I'd advise anyone having issues - to start here
- then you will know its something on your PC or ISP/connection at fault.

First link gives a lot of detail of the site...2nd link - its you or everyone

Anonym zu www.isitdownrightnow.com/

Anonym zu www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

After you have exhausted the news areas
torrent freak / your ISPs forum / filehosts news

Then its time to start the isolate and test to work out what is causing the blockage

Most of the issues relating to accessibility of late have comeback to

-anti-virus / firewall software that blocks sites,
-router & modem connection issues,
-Hostsfile blocking lists
-malfunctioning or forgotten browser add-ons like no script - this has a bad habit of stopping captchas on some filehosts and needs to be disabled before you select the link
- level of membership is an issue - sometimes registering as a free user will get you access in times of high traffic where downloading anonymously wont

ie file factory as I have experienced recently

Simple solutions to try

Registering as a free user as opposed to downloading anonymously/guest increases your chances on some hosts

Disabling ad-& script blocker add-ons another which dont allow pages to load fully
is smart when trying to diagnose WHY?

If you do the above i'd advise making sure your browser is in a sandbox like sandboxie
if its not covered by the browser your using or the security suite/ anti-virus software your using so any infections received from hit and run scripts buried in a page can simply be deleted after you've finished.

Some browsers and even security suites now have sandboxing

How you proceed is all down to what you have on your computer

1.Turn off your browser add-ons usually via Tools / add-ons / disable
depending on which browser version your using

2.Try another browser incase the one your using has become corrupt
Firefox profiles have a well known history of this

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...eb-browser.htm

2.a. Clean out your browsers cookies in the cache with the likes of cc cleaner - sometimes what you find is there are old saved pages where errors occured and everytime you revisit the site they return to haunt you even if the error no longer exists.

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...le-cleaner.htm

Recent case in point with r#p#dg#tor for a UK user
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...5&postcount=68

3.If your using an automatic downloader try it manually - some filehosts are changing their codes frequently to keep the level of over consumption via automatic downloading down

or if your downloading manually try the automatic - jdownloader

4.Start in safe mode pf8 - Safe Mode with Networking
Can potentially remove troublesome conflicting software on your PC from the equation

5.Check anti-virus,firewall and hostsfile to see if they have the site listed as blocked

6.Your router / modem - some say its wise to check this before everything else
I've found simply googling the make model number can lead straight to recent issues
Just recently the router/modem issue reared its ugly head with rapidshare and UK users and even the experts at the ISP & Filehosts couldnt pinpoint where the problem really was.

"An example of the above

To those who tried to help with this problem, I have found a solution but not a fix. I took my computer to a a consultant and I was able to connect to all the web sites. He was using a different router. He then connected my computer to a similar router as mine and had the same problem.

My computer has the routing information and it automatically connects to the internet server. What we had to do was configure the router itself with the address. Now all the pertinent info is on the router so we bypass the need for my computer to configure it."

source

Anonym zu www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=90002.0

7. Your ISP is blocking the site - which is why you check your ISPs forum or simply get them to check the site for you.

Theres always a possibility its down to the individual server the files are on
If its over burdened then usually anonymous followed by free registered users get locked out so the server doesnt die on everyone.

Some times too many mainly premium users are attempting to access it and its gone in a blink of an eye.Hence why no access for days on end.

- over loaded servers which mean free users are locked out till traffic is reduced
- filefactory are one of the few who actually have a warning message which says as such
most other hosts dont bother and your left guessing as to why that link wont work

If the host is paying cash rewards you can be assured the links are on multiple forums meaning where you might expect 1-50 to be accessing on 1 busy forum you probably have something like 10 to 20 times that number trying to access it.

Other times you need to be really really patient

I've noticed with rapidshare for instance clicking on links shows a white page which can then take 10 seconds to appear as per normal...clicking on the download button once gets nothing...3 times a pop-up you dont have rapid pro....5-7 times clicking on free download finally brings the download to the surface...all the time little java script message in the bottom left corner.I figure this is no script at its problematic worst even though the site has been ALLOWED or simple congestion as the server the link is on is over burdened.

The final straw on Megaupload, was one of their many servers being found
operating in of all places, the state of Virginia. Parking in the backyard of
the FBI, isn't quite the smartest thing for a file host company to do lol. Then
there's Mediafire. Now I know many people in Texas tend to think that their
big state is a country all to it's own, lol, but when it comes to files hosts
basing their operation and servers in the Lone Star state, those who do, such
as Mediafire, find out real quick that Texas is after all part of the USA. lol.

I'm not mentioning this as any dis to Mediafire and the way that they operate.
They, like many of the other survivors of the great file hosts take down
at the beginning of the year, benefited greatly. Of course with more
customers, comes more trouble that a great increase in business can
bring. The need to increase their storage facilities, as well as all of a sudden
now hosting a 100 fold increase in the amount of porn than they'd ever
hosted before. The major porn movers and shakers, are much more in the
mix of either shutting down file hosts or in some cases, actually taking over
operations of and profits of a select few of them to sell their own wares.

Paypal of course has joined in the mix of things these days, and trust me
on this......Mediafire isn't the only ones to tell them to shove it up their
asses lol. Many folks' only dealings with PayPal, have been thru file hosts....
paying for premium memberships and such, but PayPal has a VERY long history
of screwing not just filehosts over for what they deemed on their own as
shady businesses in filehosting, but many many other people and businesses
that simply woke up one day to find their PP accounts frozen. So PP definitely
had quite a bit of practice before they began denying some filehosts the
assets they'd held for them.

Funny thing about PayPal and filehosts tho......ever notice that the most
popular file host on the planet......Rapishare......will sell you all the rapids
you'd ever care to purchase thru PayPal, so you can download that latest
Batman movie you've been wanting to see! lol Go figure huh?

Ours is not to try and figure out WHY just to traverse the abyss

I've been reading recently that rapidshare is on a mediafire type purge of BIG accounts

That this coincides with the relaxing of the free user downloader speeds makes me and many others suspicious that they are actually looking for us to lead them to the copyright material through simple volume of hits to any account.

While this sounds like a conspiracy its actually smart on their part as they will be able to reach a certain figure quicker that satisfies their efforts to the courts to be combatting violations...its cat and mouse and only a fool would think its going to get better

Re-upping of takedowns has been par for the course for years but whats changed is occasionally they'll close your account today.

Anyone familiar with the cliche of putting all their eggs in one basket really needs to think wisely and spread the risk especially if your a free registered user

I lost 2 accounts on 2 filehosts in 1 day not that long ago

It can happen so make contingency plans - become familiar with remote uploading
(as i am not as I'm a small uploader at best) and make sure every host you use has it....worth its weight in gold because its so much quicker.....its like with megaupload - you uploaded a file expecting it to take a long time and it happened in seconds - because someone else had it on file - remote uploading takes your initial upload and sends it elsewhere

Its the sole reason why those who get a lot of DMCA notices ad nauseum
dont throw in the towel

From what little i've read over the journey rapidshare & media fire are almost bullet proof
but only if they keep purging accounts and removing X amount of copyright violations.

The curious thing that the industry that keeps asking for takedowns when they search google is actually ignorant to which hosts have already been removed

Hence the story on torrent freak of the heavy weights wasting valuable time by sending DMCA notices for megaupload & others well after they were dead...
to call them inept would be pretty accurate but even the inept backed by money(tube sites etc)can be dangerous.

Anti-Piracy Outfits Think Megaupload, Demonoid & BTjunkie Are Still Alive

I have no intention of using Rapidgator (probably better called Rapidlater)
This from their company:

"Dear customer,
Free users can download 3 files per day and maximum two per one hour.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience."

Think thats the worst I've ever seen for a 'free user'.

Well in the last day or 2 the much vaunted RG seems
to have bombed out free users alltogether.

Clicking "slow download" gives:

Access denied

I was having something similar with rapidgator
What confused me was I seemed to be denied even getting their page to load using my Virginmedia connection, but using a '3 mobile broadband', I had no problems at all

Then I hit on the idea of deleting Rapidgator cookies from my browser & it worked ! but I dunno what the situation is in the last couple of days (not had time to do much Downloading with RG) good luck
