It was announced today in the papers that Karin Dor, who played Osato's assistant Helga Brandt, in You Only Live Twice had died aged 79.
There is a new magazine called Bond In Motion which is being launched by Eaglemoss and will feature a Bond vehicle each week - I seem to recall this happened a few years ago and the collections started to appear on Ebay sometime later.

You can tell by the way Connery plays the scene with his facial reaction to being offered the wrong Martini that its been scripted so that Bond doesn't offend him.

Quote:
In the first 5 novels Bond was carrying a Beretta 418 .25 ACP which was an autopistol NOT a revolver. What Boothroyd originally wrote was: "I have, by now, got rather fond of Mr. James Bond. I like most of the things about him, with the exception of his rather deplorable taste in firearms. In particular, I dislike a man who comes into contact with all sorts of formidable people using a .25 Beretta. This sort of gun is really a lady's gun, and not a really nice lady at that. If Mr. Bond has to use a light gun he would be better off with a .22 rim fire; the lead bullet would cause more shocking effect than the jacketed type of the .25. May I suggest that Mr. Bond be armed with a revolver?" This led to a response from Ian Fleming (see below) and during the back and forth correspondence Bond wound up with a 7.65mm Walther PPK although Boothroyd always maintained Bond should carry a revolver. The BBC ran a short clip to accompany Goldfinger where the real Boothroyd is introduced by Sean Connery. It's available as an extra on the Dr. No Ultimate Edition DVD and on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuO34MDezzU

Sad to read that Lewis Gilbert who directed several Bond films and Reach for the Stars has died aged 97. I didn't know he had been a child actor before directing but he also directed Sir Michael Caine in Alfie and later Educating Rita. I always thought he should have been knighted well before but now he will never know if he was in line for one.

According to the paper (Daily Mail) it would appear that the next 007 director will be...Danny Boyle(Trainspotter) and Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoil have done a deal with Tim Bevan of Working Title, a British film making firm.

This could be what is known in the trade as 'Bamigboye Bollocks'
Ring Baz up and feed him a line knowing full well he'll printed as a piece of gossip. I suspect Boyle is a decoy name to force the hand of the director that Barbs and Mick actually want. It's interesting because last week Baz was spewing out that the same Danny Boyle had signed a deal to produce/direct a London west end musical using songs from The Beatles back catalouge for the end of this year. As Bond 24 is likely to start production towards the last 3 months of this year, difficult to see how Boyle can do both... ..and personally, a Bond car chase fist fight explosion-fest action thriller doesn't strike me as a Boyle type of film. |

The so-called James Bond volcano has started to erupt:

It looks like it will be Danny Boyle as the next director of James Bond.
This might be interesting to those of you here : Drama: Moonraker, Saturday 2.30pm BBC Radio4 with Toby Stephens as James Bond. Of course you will remember him as a villain in the film 'Die Another Day' |

Did you know that Dwayne "The Rock "Johnson's great grandfather was a Bond baddie? No neither did I until last nights Graham Norton repeat. His grandfather was a wrestler named High Chief Peter Mavaia who learned his wrestling craft here in England. You might recall he was the big one in You Only Live Twice being hit in the face by what appears to be a very light sofa trying to kill Bond in Osaka's office. He was a real Samoan chief and a wrestler as was the other memorable baddie in Goldfinger, Harold Sakata as Odd Job(wrestler not a chief)
