Not even close.

Bill had left Sabbath during the early stages of the Heaven and Hell tour due to addiction issues. He had gotten clean and rejoined the band after the first Dio period for the Born Again album. He played on all tracks and is listed along with Messrs Iommi, Butler, and Gillian as a writer. Toward the end of the recording sessions, he received word that his ex-wife was going to fight him on child custody issues. He became dispondent and fell off the wagon. He finished the album and feeling he couldn't trust himself to tour (due to the non-stop party) he returned to his home in California to go back into treatment. It was only then that Bev Bevan was brought in to play drums on the tour. The treatment worked and Ward has been clean and sober for nearly 40 years. While he has come and gone from the lineup over the years, he was never fired from Sabbath.

The song "Trashed" was about an incident that happened during the recording of the album at The Manor Studio in Shipton-on-Sherwell. The record company had provided cars for each of the 4 members. One night, drunk, Ian Gillan "borrowed" Bill's car and raced around the Manor's grounds eventually flipping and wrecking the car. Not amused, Bill then proceeded to sink Ian's boat.

This is well documented not only in interviews but in Iommi's book Iron Man and David Tangye/Graham Wright's book How Black Was My Sabbath. The latter two were Sabbath roadies for years.

sorry Decadence...shoulda left a space between the names. I saw Sabbath in providence on the heaven and hell tour and Ward was still with them. show was early August if I recall. by mid August he was gone. read somewhere recently he really started drinkign heavily since Ozzy's sacking, but who knows.

there was another Sabbath roadie who talked about Trashed...what was his name...Pete Restey. to me it looked like Bevan in the video.

as far as the show...Shakin Street opened and was bombed off the stage...Sammy Hagar was next who dit not seem to mind the smoke bombs thrown on stage... there were 200 cops...but they were not inside the Civic Center....

my seats were 18 rows back main floor RIGHT in front of Geezer Butler. could not tell what he used for speakers ( maybe just Martin bass bins ) he DID have 3 Crown DC 300 As all for himself. they opened with Warpigs. that opening power chord and bass literally was breathtaking thru that Tasco PA. the encore was Children of the Grave. I;d seen Dio before with Rainbow. what a voice RIP.

I saw them on the Mob Rules tour as well. terrible mix. not a good show.

did you ever see them ?

Smile Canada

It may seem silly for an American to ask other Americans questions in this thread, but I'm going to go for it anyway.

Back on the Mainland, I'd sometimes run into people that poked fun at Canada. I've never understood this.

I personally love Canada. I'm a hockey fan and had Canadians neighbors that were nice. Plus the women are very pretty.

Maybe I am just hearing things (or need a psych evaluation), but where did this cultural feud with Canada originate, and what are the reasons for it?

Hopefully this makes sense.

Cheers!

Never understood it either.

Our honest, law abiding, pleasant neighbors to the North - who always ally with us.

None of us were around during those 1800's invasion attempts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasi...ll%20in%201838.

I do recall the "Eh" comedians of the 80's - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...ians-1.4115715

Only people I thought who disliked Canadians were those from cities whose hockey teams would get beat by Canadians.......like almost always.

I live in a resort town where most tourists are Canadian, or were till Covid closed the border. Overall I prefer them to my fellow countrymen, especially as tourists. However for some reason tourist towns look down on their meal ticket. I lived in another resort town where most tourists were Texan and held in contempt. It's a mystery to me why USAmericans as a whole would disparage Canadians except for jingoist "superpatriots."

might be an oversimplification....but its our belief...obssession...programming...that we, the USA, are the best. merely questioning or stating we might not be will certainly wake up the Murica love it or leave it types.

granted...there were never American "boat people" making rafts to paddle off to distant lands not scores of USA citizens crossing this heavily protected border between the USA and Canada

still, look where the USA ranks in terms of prison populations, infant mortality, etc. those foam finger "we're number 1" seem arrogant at best and ill informed at worst.

would I prefer Canada or Sweden to the USA ? heck no. part of our faults and fractures is what does make the USA at least unique among democratic republics around the world.

I will let actor Jeff Daniels from the TV series Newsroom (2012) explain it further. BTW..in this series he plays a conservative news man not a liberal.

Well then here is a clip that MAY... sort of explain us up in the colder climate...
I laughed and went, "Yup - bang on the money." Any game of hockey I've been involved in with another country, we didn't lose. Sweden, Norway, USA, couple of others that escape my memory.
But enjoy the laughs that the clip explains...

This might be a really daft question which will make American chaps roll their eyes so apologies in advance.
The recent tornadoes which ripped through many US States left a trail of destruction and cost many people their lives.
Looking at all the TV coverage one thing which seemed apparent was that brick and stone structures appeared to be relatively undamaged compared with what appeared to be wooden structures. Nearly all the houses appeared to be wood structures.
Wouldn't it be a better idea to build using brick and stone, instead?
Again, sorry if I've missed the bloody obvious.

Well, that's the mid-South, and a lot of people down there don't have that much money, so houses tend to be built on the cheap. I don't think they have so much in the way of housing codes either. I literally watched a guy build a "homestead" house down south once on youtube, I was amazed at how cheaply it was done, light framing and cheap wood paneling. Would not be allowed where I live. They also have that warmer climate down there, so maybe the consensus of the people is that you can build your dwelling less stoutly, and also DIY means the banks/home lenders can be damned, another important point if you are a shirt-tail Southerner without much coin in your wallet.

Insofar as building from brick/stone, that's expensive here too. You just don't see it much. Here where I live, in the frozen North, there is a practical reason for it as well - when temps can get down to -20 Fahrenheit or lower every winter, that level of frost will do bad things to the mortar joints. My house is wood, and when it gets really cold you can hear it pop and crack as everything contracts. Wood houses are more flexible in the cold, brick much less so, you are looking at more repairs down the road with brick.

A fair number of folks here live in mobile homes too, because it's cheaper, I don't know what you call them in the UK, but I mean homes like this:

https://kafgw.com/17-house-trailer-s...ille-kymobile/

Don't know if you have these in the UK, but they are popular amongst the poorer classes here. Basically a big aluminum shell, movable by truck. Also very popular in the South. As an aside, this is where we get the term "trailer trash" from.

I'll leave it to your imagination as to what a tornado would do to one of these.

Nonetheless, there are a lot of them in "Tornado Alley".

There's a quite informative overview of wood as a construction material here.

Possibly some of it is due to tradition and established skill-sets. America may well have more carpenters and skilled lumber workers and fewer bricklayers. Within certain limits it makes sense to work to your own strengths.
