Playmate Centerfolds – My ideal

This is a great question. I confess that I have strong feelings about the CFs of my favorite PMs, because I have a terrible weakness in my fantasy life for voluptuous women. I’ve been fortunate not to have such a limited ideal of female beauty in my real life. But when it comes to PMs, I’m afraid I have a more single-minded ideal, and I think that my favorite PMs are favored by a certain style of CF and poorly served by others.

A favorite CFs of one of my favorite PMs is of Marilyn Lange.



Why do I love it? First, because Marilyn smiles her beautiful smile. I wish her smile were a bit bigger, like Sharon Johansen’s.



But it’s still a nice smile, perfect for a “pin up” photo – one you might have seen on the wall of an office or business or dorm room in the old days, before such pin-ups went out of fashion. Marilyn is happy, accessible, relaxed, and friendly, exactly as a pin up should be—not sultry or seductive or passionate. I’m grateful that Marilyn gave us so many photos that were sultry, seductive, and passionate. They’re my favorites, as I’m sure they are for every fan of Marilyn. But those photos aren’t, in my opinion, proper for a centerfold, which I think should emphasize a PM’s beauty, as great boudoir photography does, rather than her sexuality. That’s best left for other, more intimate photos.

Second, I love Marilyn’s centerfold because she appears before us full-figured, completely nude, and at a slight angle so we can appreciate her fore and aft. Voluptuous women don’t need clothes to look spectacular (see Cynthia Myers as well!).



Clothing and lingerie can help less curvaceous PMs, but when you’re as spectacular as Marilyn or Cynthia, why let clothes get in the way? Sadly, in some respects, women like Marilyn and Cynthia don’t look as striking in clothes, which are designed for the most part for tall, slender women. Voluptuous women—especially if they are shorter than around 5’7”, tend to look flatter and plumper and shorter and wider in the waist in clothes than they do without, because clothes hide their curves. For taller women with great bodies, like Candy Loving or Lynda Wiesmeier, it doesn’t matter whether they are nude, clothed, or partly clad in lingerie—they can pull off any look. But for shorter women with full figures, like Marilyn and Cynthia, clothing and lingerie just get in the way. They were born to be nude, all the time!

So that’s why--with all due respect to PriceIsRight and other friends on VEF who disagree with me on this point—I’m not a particular fan of Karen Price’s centerfold. She’s not smiling. She’s wrapped in lingerie. And we can see her only from the front, so we can’t appreciate her full figure.



I don’t know of a particular photo of Karen that could remedy all those faults. But I can think of a composite. I’d love to see her smile as she does so beautifully in these photos. Yes, her teeth are perfect too! When it rains beauty, it pours.



I’d also love to see Karen full figure, as in this photo.



It's a wonderful photo, despite the unfortunate crop to the right. Karen is completely nude, and she forms a tall, elegant, shapely line in her heels. But this photo is too erotic for a centerfold —just too, too hot. I don’t think CFs should make us break out in a sweat—that’s for seductive photos, like this one. If you pinned this photo up on a wall, it might burn through it, and you’d spend so much time looking at Karen you wouldn’t get anything done. So yes, capture the beauty of Karen’s body in her CF, but turn down the heat, as PB did in Marilyn’s and Cynthia’s CFs.

The photo of Karen in the fake garden almost does it. It’s a fantastic shot of her figure, but again, she’s not smiling. It might do nicely, if she smiled.



The closest I can come for a CF shot from the photos PB has let us see is a favorite photo I’ve already spoken about on Karen’s discussion thread.



If I had to pick a CF from Karen’s portfolio, this is it. It’s a wonderful, engaging photo, but again, not quite what I’d have in mind for Karen’s CF. I love her shy smile, but for her CF, I wish Karen would smile more broadly. And we don’t get to see enough of Karen’s astounding, athletic body. We only get to appreciate her from the waist up.

So I’d ask Ken Marcus, as great a photographer as he is, for a do-over. Perhaps a shot based on Karen’s heart-stopping photo in the gym.



Again, this photo is too erotic for a CF. Karen is stripping, for goodness sakes! But if Karen were strike this pose, fully nude, look up at us, and smile—yes, that would do it!

Your second alternate here didn't exist during her initial pictorial, and would therefore have never been a possibility. It was taken some years later, after breast augmentation surgery. It wouldn't surprise me if one or both of the other two were considered, though.
