They used to check the emergency doors in all the theatres. This was to prevent people from sneaking into the movie without paying.

The Olympic Flame finally arrived round our way today, and it was bedlam. I have never seen so many people around that way-except when there used to be a pub and clearing out on a Saturday night/Sunday morning-but they were all good-natured and enjoying the spectacle. I went with my mother, my father wasn't that interested this time, and I managed to get some footage on my camcorder. The procedure is that outriders appear and block the road off then the sponsors buses of Samsung and Coca Cola come up blasting out music and a Torch Relay coach with an announcement of when the flame is due. It was a roasting hot afternoon and after 5 mins the Olympic flame and torchbearer hoved into view and the flags waved, the children cheered, young and old people cheered, and one mouthy bird(think that one from Eastenders with the big chest) shouted "yeah baby" and "yeah, yeah. yeah" several times as behind the torchbearer another big coach appeared. It was interesting to note that the police were getting high fives and handshakes from the crowd and a few TfL(Transport for London) officials were around doing not very much. The whole thing lasted 10mins in all but it was one experience I don't think I will ever forget - and I have the proof on camcorder, transferred now to tape and soon DVD. What a day! Oh yes and I am melting as I write this from a very warm attic.

What with the Olympics going on in London and all the associated nonsense that goes along with it, a local DC news station has this story running and posted on their website:

Primer on British English for Americans
http://www.wtop.com/?nid=539&sid=2960607

It is a fairly generic "Lets all point and laugh at the funny people on the little island that talk funny" story.

I didn't say it was accurate, but it was amusing.

Of course there are certain words that are in common usage in London (at least when I have been there) that are missing from the list.

They are frowned upon here (on this site) too.

North Korea declares war on England!

Just kidding. Some genius put up South Korea's flag when introducing North Korea's football team. Must have been sampling their opponents, Colombia, finest blend.
