In WW1 HMS E11 under the command of LCdr M.E. Dunbar-Naismith VC, took a heavy toll of Turkish shipping in the Sea of Marmara.

One of the most famous UBoots ... Type VIIB U-47 from the Korvettenkapitän Gunther Prien, the Scapa Flow bull, famous for the torpedoing of the HMS Royal Oak at dawn on October 13-14, 1939, at the Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands.

In the mid Seventies I worked at the Clyde Submarine Base - we used to fish for mackerel right beside nuclear boats tied up at the jetty.
We were issued pills to take if there was a nuclear accident - supposed to be iodine but I was worried they might be cyanide.  |
