Women readily threw themselves at him. But I suspect it was mostly aggressive women, who would take charge. As one co-star of his put it: “Elvis was very sweet, well-mannered and respectful, completely non-threatening.” No 'bad boy' he, in other words...

In fact here, culled from interviews with Latina pepper pot Rita Moreno about her recent autobiography, are some illuminating observations:
“She and Presley went on dates but, when it came to getting physical, he was the complete opposite of the ‘thrilling’ Marlon Brando. Their evenings ‘nearly always concluded in a tender tussle on my living room floor, with Elvis’s pelvis in that famous gyration straining against his taut trousers,’ says Moreno. But the ‘next move’ never came. ‘Whatever put the brakes on the famous pelvis, it ground to a halt at a certain point and that was it.’
As other girlfriends attested, in private Elvis became his ‘real self, a shy, bumbling kid . . . whose favorite book was the Bible.’ Watching him eat a bacon, banana and peanut butter sandwich fried in bacon fat, Moreno clicked — he probably lusted after it more.”

And from another interview:
There were a number of high-profile men in her life who turned out to be duds. Childlike Elvis Presley was amusing but a complete failure in the feathers. Excessive grinding was his sole modus operandi. “Maybe Elvis was inhibited by inbred religious prohibitions or an Oedipal complex, or maybe he simply preferred the thrill of a denied release.”
