Default HEVC/X265 videos

Couple of useful links:
High Efficiency Video Coding
HEVC / H.265 Explained

I found something that I have wanted to see remastered for a very, very long time and was given the choice of 1080p MP4 at a whopping 25GB or 1080p HEVC x265 at a more reasonable 5GB for the first series. I decided to go for the latter and see what was what with this newfangled codec, and I am not disappointed.

The codec was created to support 4k/8k video, so if you want to beam porn onto the side of your house in full definition.......lol. But seriously once the right software is released (free that is), any file you have can be encoded to say 20% of the original size. So, that 700mb rip will be less than 200mb with no loss of quality at all.

Pros and cons.

Its new and the most popular media players are very sketchy and leaky. VLC plays it, just, but its unwatchable, however the developers will sort that out. Media player classic wont read it all all. I tried 5kplayer, but it suffers the same issues as VLC.
Divx player runs it flawlessly, they are usually first on new tech like this, but without pro features taking screencaps is difficult.

I had to use snipping tool on windows for these, so it only shows the resolution of my screen as opposed to the files.

On a delightfully positive note, the files work on my samsung smart tv via a memory stick.

My photo. See what I am enjoying

In summary, use the free divx player to view for the time being.

To be continued/updated hopefully with many a member input

Na mate, I got DIVX pro instead and removed the other players to avoid conflict. I Can't see the likes of CCCP being updated anytime soon tbh.

On a side note, it takes a lot of processing power to convert to x265, more than my old puter can handle and for the time being, only supports 720p+ resolution.

Daum is much more better than VLC Plalyer and do not req'd any codecs installation like VLC. Daum has been developed by ex-developers of KMP. After they left KMP became a typical adware and instead of adding new features they fix bugs and and generate new bugs. Please try Daum and then maybe you will not need any extra player anymore

Gave h265 a try in handbrake.
Source was a 720x576 vhs rip and I only used the preview option (30s).
File size:
4,3 MB h264
3 MB h265

MPC and vlc played without any hassle. Could be that I once installed a codec pack - don't remember.

To my surprise streaming also worked flawlessy with my kindle fire tablet.
MX player and VLC - free versions.

Settings used:

Besides the fact that h265 took about 5-6 the time to encode - it seems to work now very well. Smaller files are always nice. Could also turn up RF quality while keeping the size.

Is there a reason to post h265 encoded movies here? Seems to work with the default players (don't know about Mac/Linux but vlc is available there too). And if works with kindle OS (given the shitty app support compared to iOS or real android) it should work on any device now. My kindle fire tablet has also weak hardware - sub 100€ tablet - don't remember exactly as it was reduced with prime.

Usually handbrake needs 2 hours on my pc with 264. If it is 10 hours I wouldn't care. Can problaby uplclock it more (i2500k). Maybe another reason to get a beefier CPU and a new CPU. AMD Zen power!
10sec comparison for you to try out (from the vhs source - family safe content):

h264

h265
https://mega.nz/#!U1UUAC6a!xksoQRCxG...7WC0xAz_iMqA6c

The blur is due to the source as scene is from fictional music vide. Interested in feedback if it works well or if there any problems with it.
