We don't really, it's pretty weak or silent, phonetically it's /ˈsəʊldʒə(r)/

Even British pron varies a lot with region and accent, the "l"is weak in many working class accents like cockney.

it's usually silent with idea /aɪˈdɪə/

Though some RP speakers are more likely to pronounce it with a weak 'r', though it's not normally done in normal quick conversation.

These "healthier lunches" cost more to provide so parents were forced to pay more, and in many cases the kids threw away most of the food because it did not taste good (I guess her strategy of starving kids would reduce obesity). Unless you have someone there forcing the kid to eat the food, it does no good, and the kids were just eating junk food when they got home.


There is nothing wrong with promoting healthy food, but when you mandate it, you have gone to far. People can still get fat by eating "healthy" food.

Hmmm... Let me tell you that I doubt about mental/emotional stories.

This represents a mass of fat necessary for the energy expenditure of 0.18 kg.
The average energy expenditure of a sedentary person is 10500 kJ.

And here's the conclusion:

A 4-hour exercise on a bicycle will therefore consume about two-thirds of the energy required daily by a sedentary person.
This clearly demonstrates that for weight loss, eating less is much more effective than exercise.

Here is the French National Health Nutrition Program

Foods to limit

Red meat: beef, pork, lamb, veal, etc. 500 g / week maximum;
Meats: ham, salami, etc. : 150 g / week maximum, favoring white ham;
Sugared beverages: one drink a day maximum, focusing on fruit juice;
Salt ;
Fats: limit consumption, focusing on rapeseed, walnut and olive oils.

Foods to focus on

Fish and seafood: twice a week including a fat (mackerel, sardine, etc.);
Fruits and vegetables: at least 5 servings a day, 80 to 100 g each;
Legumes: lentils, beans, beans, peas, etc. that can replace meat;
Products made from whole grains or not very refined.

I don't know in America, but in Europe, "foods to focus on" are less expensive than "food to limit".
Here the most expensive food are meat and fish. (About 20 to 50 $ the kg)
They are more expensive than beans, lentils or peas. (About 5 $ the kg)

Instead to drink sodas full of sugar, water with a little bit raw lemon or apple juice is very tasty too.

For sure you have to be proud of your "r", it's a very sweet ones, but they do not correspond as a "brutal" typical sound. They are more like a conjunction of vowels.

When in Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch or French as examples, the pronunciacion of the "r" is very strong.
