Default Your affection for 'old' videortapes/VHS

Although I love my dvd collections and love getting hold of my fave classics on disc, i still love my old grainy VHS that i collected in my youth and wanked to many times before I found real partners!! They have stayed with me, even though transfered to dvd discs, I still cant stand to part from my old videos, I move house think 'oh I might as well throw them as i have them on dvd now, but no I still keep em. Once they were all i had and sometimes I still prefer watching the films on these VHS which are worn in places, like my face scenes but have that 'atmosphere' that dvds do not, even hearing a vhs go round in the recorder, the sound everything, it takes me back!!

Anyone else feel like this

I think of vhs a bit like cassette. Ok back then, but really crap now. I understand your personal affection for old media. I have kept some old vhs myself. But I doubt i'll watch them again to be honest. I retired my vhs player to the roofspace a couple of years ago.

I feel the same. I've not kept all my old (non-porn) VHS, but there is something comforting about that initial whirring and clicking when you drop a tape in. For me, being your classic film nerd, it brings back the feeling of wonder (in the early days of players) that you could, as the slogan went, "Watch what you want, when you want" .
It's a little like LPs versus CDs: I sometimes find CDs a little too clear and sharp. There's a warmth missing in DVDs that ol' VHS provides.

I've kept my old VHS tapes for two reasons. One is I simply can't find some of the titles on DVD. The other is that some of the films differ from VHS to DVD. For example, a lot of DVDs come in this fake widescreen format. In the full screen VHS version of "Hitman", there's a scene where you can see Pam Grier's bush. But in the widescreen DVD version, Pam is cut off at the waist, so no bush. I've noticed this in a lot of movies. So I have to keep the tapes.

I'm a minimalist. But even I have my stash of VHS porn from my teenage times still around. Around 80-100 tapes, with "absolutely legal" copies from the early 1990:

Those were the days. Back from the video store, where the owner somehow suspected that I wasn't 18 yet but rented me the videos anyway, grabbing the parents' recorder out of the living room, hooking it to my own, and on with the copy process.

In the video store I had always difficulties to decide which movie to rent. Masses of titles, but only the money for one per day.

Default A lot of the vhs versions are longer than dvd version

One thing I found out (annoyingly enough after I gave away some vhs that I bought same thing on dvd) is that idiots like cutting things out of the originals, so to me I'm not buying any dvds anytime soon unless it's a bargain.

The cropped widescreen version is how the movie was shown in theaters. It's called "open matte." With the full-frame version, you're seeing extra stuff at the top and bottom of the picture that you wouldn't have seen in the original theatrical release.

No affection for the old VHS tapes, but plenty of love for the old classic movies. Cedrtain movies have followed me as my porn collection upgraded from Analog (mags and VHS) to Digital (Images and Videos) and will stay with me until long after my interest in them becomes academic.

These are just the old classics that get pulled out and "used" at least once or twice a year. They are my "Go-To's".

I too have kept my VHS tapes, both mainstream and porn, for a lot of the reasons stated. I also like the tape presentation, big box for porn and hard shell and later cardboard cases. vHS looks and feels more substantial as well. I’ve had tapes for over thirty years that still play quite well, but have had dvds crap out after a year or less. So, I won’t be getting rid of my tape collection or players anytime Soon! I will only buy a dvd as a last resort in most cases.
