Perhaps one or more of you experienced jdownloader users can help me out with this.

I started using it - oh, I think about a year ago - for sucking down collections of pictures. Worked first time for me, out of the box, without having to fiddle with anything. Now I'm coming back to use it again and it doesn't seem to be behaving the same way. I use the "Linkgrabber/Add URLs" function to copy/paste in the URL for the page (or just the posting) I want to get the pics from. But when it parses the URL, none of the imagebam links are recognized or found.

Did something change here that I need to use a little differently? Am I just stupid? Other?

thx.mch.

What is the URL? JDownloader works fine for me with Imagebam (though for downloading images, I prefer the Imagehost Grabber plugin for Firefox).

Did you regularly update ur JD? Sites changing and so JD changes too. I dont know what version of JD do you use but i would suggest to use the new JD2 beta.

I think I did a conscious upgrade when I tried to use it (after not doing so for some months), and each time I run it it appears to upgrade the necessary rulesets/modules/whatever for the target sites. So I think the answer is yes.

I hadn't taken the time yet (was too busy last night) to look at the page source. So, since JDownloader used to work here for me, what changed?

-- I got all but two of the images on the page. Requests abort when the image server takes too long to respond, and will vary with server load; it also seems to happen more with rarely requested files, which have to be retrieved from deep storage. You can alter the timeout value in FF, type

about:config

in the address bar and change the value in

extensions.imagegrabber.requesttimeout

my recommendation is to NOT use jdownloader to grab images. it works cool with filehosts like rapidshare, for imagehosts better use something like downthemall with anticontainer or imagegrabber plugin.

Here's a tip for when you click on links from a multihoster, e.g. mirrorcreator, embedupload, uploadmirrors, etc.

JD will "decrypt" the multihoster links into individual links at every host for each file, so you may end up with a long list of links. I used to delete all but one link for each file, alternating between different hosts for each part. But I figured out a better way.

The problem was, sometimes a file would fail to download completely, and then I'd have to go back and find the link for that file at the multihoster again and choose a different host.

Instead of deleting, I now just disable the other links, by right clicking on all but one link for each file and selecting "disable" from the list.

Here is an example:

The light gray lines are links that I already disabled. The dark gray lines are links I selected just before right clicking, and now my cursor (which you can't see in this screen capture) is on "Disable (9)", which will disable the 9 links in dark gray. My next step would be to disable all but one of the remaining links to part 4, so that I have one active link for each part, all at different filehosts.

Then, after loading the "package", if any of the files fail to download, or download too slowly, I can simply disable the active link and enable one of the others (right click on the grayed-out link and select "enable").

You might find other good uses for disabling and re-enabling links, too.
