Hello all.

As of 2:32 pm Eastern Standard Time in the U.S., PimpAndHost will not complete photo uploads. The photos do upload to 100% but then they get stuck indefinitely in the "Processing" phase. I left a group of photos in that limbo state for about ten minutes to see if they would finish processing. They did not.

I'm guessing this is a temporary thing. I attempted to post about 30 photos. I should note that not ALL of them got stuck this way. Out of the 30, about five or six photos did finish processing.

Just a heads up if you're trying to post something using PimpAndHost!

...just a quick update to the situation. I noticed that PimpAndHost DOES complete the processing phase, but only if you upload one or two photos at at a time and not more. So it must be some kind of bottleneck thing with upload volume. I expect it will clear up within a short time.

You say posts, do you mean a specific post or the whole thread?

Here's a tip for anyone having that problem in the future: If you isolate an offending post in your web browser by clicking on its #number, then do a "View page source" (or else save it to disk and look at it from there with a text editor), you'll see the HTML for the page and that'll give you the name of the image host that has temporarily gone bad, which you can then report here along with a link to the post.

Or just wait an hour or two and try again. Phase of the moon ...

As of today things improved, but in this post 2 thumbs are still not loading (but it is possible to open them). Yesterday, all of them were missing, but it was still possible to click on them and open the actual image. Strange.

Hi there Omnidirector!

I've not had any problems with PiXhost since that last post, been fine through November so far.

Was about 24 hours of disruption but afterwards there seems to be no lost images.

Not had that happen to me, those thumbs seem to have been lost but as you say they still link to the main image at least. I even checked pasting in just the thumbnail code, provided on the image's page, to no avail.

Apart from that outage I've found PiXhost a really fast & reliable host with nice features. I like that there's a views count (needs to be turned on in Settings when posting images) & that there's a nice way to view the image with it fitting the screen.

Still use a mix of hosts for back-up/alternative links though.

PiXhost is very nice and user friendly, I agree. In terms of speed and interface - it's probably the best. Hopefully it will remain stable and reliable. I'm also amazed how pimpandhost keeps all galleries uploaded ages ago (like 7-8 years) without a single dead image. I actually don't remember seeing any posts where pimpandhost would have any dead images.

P&H is the only image-host I have found that keeps all material; whether or not images are viewed regularly. I have been using them since 2011, and my losses were mainly due to DCMA take-down notices.

P&H did lose a server a few years ago (on their old software configuration), and for a few days it looked like my galleries would be decimated. However they were able to recover 99% of the affected images, and I only lost a dozen from various galleries.

Many VEF members (and Mods) regard P&H as a "shit" image-host; but it has always worked OK for me. My needs are fairly simple, and I would rather put up with slow, methodical uploads (I never give P&H more that 10MB to chew on at one time), than worry about losing material due to "viewing activity" requirements.
