What's your favourite hymn. (Seriously)
When we were young schoolkids and had assembly every Friday, we all had a little hymnbook that we would sing a few songs from.
I always enjoyed singing When a Knight won his Spurs.

We had a service every morning, two hymns, a reading and a psalm.
My fave was 'He who would valiant be'. Since then 'The day thou gavest', 'Abide with me' and the 23 Psalm have all become much loved, though my favourite has to be Jerusalem. I know Blake was a weirdo who mean't it to be about something else, but I like the message that we are capable of building something better. Oh and when very drunk 'Sweet Chariot' is always good for a laugh especially with the actions. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjcSpCSUjdk Especially in memoriam for those heroes of the RNLI such as the Penlee lifeboat crew. At school Jerusalem and Thine Be The Glory were sung rather raucously by my form and me in particular. |

I am in no way religious and don't really have a favourite though "Abide with Me" when sung well is always a pleasure. For me it is the music that I appreciate rather than any religious sentiment.
Don't ask me to sing - I can't carry a tune in a bucket - but I do play guitar, banjo and mandolin. I love many genres of music and have to confess that I am a sucker for a good tune belted out loud on a church (pipe) organ.. When I was at junior school our music teacher was the regular organist at he local priory and I remember one lesson being taken to the church to see "behind the scenes" of the organ loft. After being shown round, the whole class sat in pews as the teacher gave us a wonderful rendition of part of a Bach organ concerto... played loud and with great feeling. As the vicar walked in the side door the Bach ended and th opening bars of "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B" rang out. I have never forgotten the look on the vicars face. |

Right now I'm fond of "Send Down The Fire." Our church choir does a grand version of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKbWrjWF06Q I can think of a few people that should have the fire sent down on them.

I like Amazing Grace for the bagpipes. Never fails to give me goosepimples.

I'm keen on a rarely sung advent hymn called "Torches". Quite a dramatic tune.

Jerusalem now but as a youngster this one
Oh jesus I have Promised (modern version upbeat rather than drab) https://youtu.be/aNz-33V1V8A I just happen to like this version rather than high pitched voices as we were. Too many memories.
