Thanks to you Qwerty007 for starting this thread!
Sorry, no pics. I never got into UW photography. But I did realize I left two off my list. Turks and Caicos. Never forget being on a wall dive at 80ft and still being able to read the name of the dive boat on the surface, and Walt Disney World Living Seas at EPCOT. Expensive, but yes you can dive in that huge aquarium. Was going to provide a link, but wasn't sure if this was against forum rules. Search for "Disney Dive Quest" and you'll find it.

Wrecks!
I love diving wrecks. Every ship down there has some history or story about how it got there. Even the ones that were sunk intentionally as artificial reefs.
How did this ocean going tug wind up in 60 ft. of water? It got caught with 15 bales of marijuana in its wheelhouse, and got seized by the Government. A dive group bought it at auction, cleaned it up then sank it. The real wrecks can even more fascinating. The RMS Rhone is a top dive in the British Virgin Islands. The ship got twisted in half when it sank, with the bow lying in 80 feet of water, the stern in about twenty. The bow sprit is, of course, long gone, but you can swim through the large copper straps that held it together. Sank in a hurricane in the 1800's, unfortunately with large loss of life. One I have always wanted to do, but have never gotten to is the remains of the Vulcan aircraft used in the Bond film "Thunderball". I understand it is little more than framework at this point, but still, it's my favourite Bond film and it would be very cool to dive it.

I have taken a few non-swimmers down, myself. Diving is all about moving around slowly - conserving your air. The more you exert yourself, the faster you use up your compressed air. Arms are not needed, you just slowly paddle along with your legs. It takes a little bit of hand holding and it helps greatly if you stay shallow, but it can easily be done. Good point, Rich! |

If so where and for how long? (Unless you are afraid that "M" will reprimand you for giving away your secret agent status)

Diving since 1988 - OWSI since 2005 when I decided to leave the rat race and got certified as a Put Another Dollar In instructor (inside joke for anyone who knows ). Have enough credit to be a MSDT and hold a few other specialty certs like Nitrox Instructor, EFR Instructor, Equipment... Here's the PADI tree http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profess...certifications Worked all over the Caribbean from Bahamas down to Barbados - love me some warm water. I am originally from Canada, but I am allergic to cold water and dry suits! Give me warm and shallow any day... |

OK, qwerty007, this is primarily for you, but others can dive in.
My training, being long ago, consisted of a weeks worth of schooling, classroom in the morning (learning about the partial pressures of gasses etc.) and extensive pool sessions in the afternoon(endless buddy breathing, up and back, up and back). Now the equipment was much less reliable then, and diving was still considered a "macho" sport. But still, today you can take a resort course, in the pool in the morning, dive in the afternoon. Are you confident that this short a time produces a diver that is safe? BTW: Certifications: NAUI Scuba Diver ( back in the day one card fit all) and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
