How could I forget to mention Julia Roberts?

Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox. I think the obvious reason is the tattoos, but in Jolie's case the beesting lips just don't do it for me. By the same token I could say the same thing about Scarlet Johannson - undeniably beautiful, but not a Sharky boat-floater.

I think perhaps I got the tone of the original post wrong, but there are already some replies along the lines that I was seeking.

I have never heard anyone question the sexiness of Anna Friel before, but I have been watching her through narrowed eyes ever since she first appeared on Brookside, waiting for a stirring that never materialised.

Angeline Jolie, on the other hand, is like Pavlov's bells to me. If I don't keep drinking water whilst I'm watching her, I'm in danger of crumbling to dust. Evidently, some people are not affected in the same way.

Most gorgeous celebrities do nothing for me, Angelina Jolie stands out as particularly loathesome, but it's the same for most of them. It's because I know they're not real; behind them stands a small army of people who are paid to make them look beautiful. And I don't just mean the stylists, etc, but the marketing team they employ to sell me on the idea that they are the most beautiful person on the planet. They're not real in the sense that they've become packaged as a product I'm supposed to consume.

Call me Holden Caulfield, but they're phonies and that turns me off.

Yep, there's "what lies beneath" as well as Gailfan says. I stuck to the issue of appearance alone in my first post, but with someone like Angelina Jolie there's also the fact that she's one of those Hollywood people that sees putting together a collection of children from different races like collecting stamps.

I agree with the crux of your post, GailFan, but it's not really what I'm asking here. The styling and marketing of celebrities removes them from real life appraisal but I'm talking about the gut response that they invoke in us. Personally, I find it impossible to fantasise about celebrities because I don't know them, but I still find plenty of them superficially attractive.

I think your point might warrant a thread of its own.

Angelina comes off as someone who brings narcissism to an entirely new level. Ditto for Cheryl Cole, (who is actually far prettier than Jolie but you can tell that she is NOT someone you want to meet.)

Give me Anne Hathaway over any of the queens of the tabloids any day.

Kudos, krustymcc, on a good thread and interesting topic. I figure this is kinda like some friends BS'ing about women over a few beers at the pub. Some good natured ribbing here and there, but no punches or insults thrown. I'd share a pint with the VEF crew anyday

Britney Spears ~ Prior to her meltdown, she was the 'It' girl for years. She was pretty no doubt about it, but I just never really understood the interest.

Lucy Liu ~ Oddly enough since I've always been attracted to Asian women. She has nice eyes and I like the freckles, but... meh.

Halle Berry ~ It's all there. She beautiful and sexy, but there's just something about her voice that turns me off. Maybe if I watched her with the sound off...
