Guns N' Roses - "Welcome To The Jungle"
BTW, "The Jungle" could be a reference to Cincinnati, where the Bengals (Bungles?) say that they play. In 1989, the short-lived Whodey Rap said this was their domain... Also, G N' R are special to me because Axl Rose has the given surname Bailey, and is from southern Indiana. I myself have distant relatives by that surname who are from southern Indiana. So I could have a famous relative, Axl Rose... And finally, one of my cousins on the other side of the family (who until recently lived near Lawrenceburg, IN) is quite musically inclined; her band opened for Joan Jett at a festival! Richard Wetz - Symphony No. 3 (1922)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM5RkaviDD4
I. Langsam - Kraftig bewegt II. Sehr langsam, mit klagendem Ausdruck III. Scherzo: Nicht zu schnell und mit Humor IV. Finale: Bewegt The fact that Wetz had preferred the life in provincial Erfurt to that of the real music metropolises, and that he was never moved to create popular compositions which could have increased his reputation, did little to bring Wetz and his works to the broader general public. Indeed, some conductors questioned the quality of his compositions until the 1990s (especially during the arrangements for celebrations in his honour in Erfurt in 1955, 20th anniversary of his death and what would be his 80th birthday). Only recently have his creations been rediscovered. For example, the requiem of the composer was performed for the first time in sixty years in September 2003 at the Erfurt church's music festival, under the direction of George Alexander Albrecht. |

This disc is another of my favorites. Dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius. Terpsichore is from Greek mythology. Terpsichore is a muse or godddess of the dance. Michael Praetorius was a German composer, organist and music theorist. He lived in the earliest part of the Baroque period. Almost all of his great volume of compositions was church music, including over 1200 choral and song arrangements. His only surviving instrumental work was the Terpsichore a compendium of more than 300 instrumental dances. He died at age 50 in 1621. Note: Most discs of the Terpsichore like mine have only a small number of dances, about 50 minutes worth. https://youtu.be/H3U5aYluCVk |
