There is a state rep. here in TX who wants to raise the State gas tax .10 cents a gallon, to raise state road cons. money,& he's a Republicon. He has some support with fellow RCons in the House here & State senate. When people are makining some of the lowest wages in the nation we should call this a "Poor mans tax"!If one has to go to work for min. wage of 7.25 /hr., what the use if you have to travel 20+ miles,it pays more to go on welfare!

WY with its 85% RepubliCon man Senate, House & the Govs a Con too they allready raised theirs 10 cents/ gallon.Just gotta love those Rcons ,they don't want to raise taxes on anyone who makes over 200K,not one cent, but will raise taxes in a heartbeat on anyone who is going to get hurt the most, the under 100K or 20K earners.Who says the RCons don't raise taxes?Read their lying lips, aka GHWB!

Recently states have introduced bills that would make miscarriages illegal, give 'personhood' status to hour old zygotes, make the use of some contraceptives illegal, close abortion access, abolish collective bargaining, so called 'anti-voter fraud' measures, boundary gerrymandering, close down Medi-care and other provisions, which many of their elderly supporters depend upon, and even an attempt to remove direct elections to Congress.

Yah, the repubs love zygotes, stem cells, fetuses, little spermies swimming & embryos, at any level, state, local, or national. They just don't like people!Poor & middlleclass that is, at ANY level! They really think conception begins with a hard on!Yes, on the state level they're particularly bad as in, in VA. they want or did pass a law for women to take senceless, invasive ultra sounds in early term abortions,no exceptions for rape , incest, health of the mother!

They have become the party of intrusion on many personal rights issues ,& as you have pointed out the Majority ,by a substantial margin of people voted for Democrats or Independents in the US House by popular vote but thru jerrymandering, the repubs, retain a sizeable edge,WTF!?

But the bottom line is they want people to pay more taxes that can afford it least, but not the wealthy, not a cent more on them.Hmmm? I wonder if thats because they're the wealthy ones who want to pay the least?Again conservatism, according & only applying to their needs? Now another "Fiscal Cliff" they're perpetrating, I'd like to throw Paul Ryan & John Boener off a cliff physically, thats where 3/4 of them belong!

PS, Hey Mr. Scound you give me no credit anymore, hey I'm not a Republican I love you man,I love people!

People keep talking about how much people get living on Welfare. Here's something I want to know, where the *bleep* is all this money? Seriously, I live in the US in one of the most liberal states and about two years ago I was the perfect candidate for Welfare, desperately applying for any and all financial help programs I could to keep eating and hopefully keep a roof over my head. The best I could I get was $300 a month that would stop after six months. So where the f*ck are all these flowing rivers of Welfare money?!?!?

These flowing rivers of Welfare money aren't present - I think nowhere, except in the fantasies of some cacker-barrel philosophers.

Look, every state is engaged to keep those numbers of jobless low. That's everywhere the same - here too. For example here some programs are started were the jobless are pressed in. Some companies are getting payed (from the administrative bodies) to pay the jobless - for a lesser income as before, for a lesser income as the normal/usual rate (by the trade unions) - for any kind of "useless" jobs (it's to extensive, going into details). Not to mention, that the amount of payment the companies are getting is not equal with the sum they pay out to the "now workers" (social costs included of course). "And there you have it..." - they aren't jobless any more; now they aren't in the statistic any more.
A indeed lucrative busyness for the companies. Not to mention, when that program is finished - maybe 3 months later, they get fired.
And the side effect for is - than the money they are getting now as a jobless - is reduced to their last income. Got it ?

They are. Perhaps this is where I differ and provide a different point of view (perhaps somewhat cynical) about the state of 'politics'. I will use an example to elaborate;

Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck get paid HUGE amounts of money, to say what they do on radio and tv - somewhere in the region of $30 million USD a year, each. I subscribe to the view that everyone has their price and one day if I was asked to say similar stuff for that kind of money, what would I do? Would I take the high moral ground or sell out?

I really don't believe that the Boehner's, Cheney's, Bush's et al's of the world REALLY BELIEVE what they are saying. They do so because it gave them access to huge amounts of money. For christsakes - Cheney's daughter is a lesbian and you don't see him disowning her, do you?

War, weapons, repressive laws, anti-medicare, pro-corporations, tax breaks for the rich - those on top stand to make HUGE monies if they follow those policies.

Man has been profiting off of other's suffering has been around as long as the hills. The civil war and slavery was about keeping cheap labour and maximizing profits.

I'm sure the Democrats profit from things, too. It's just part of a game that is played. However, the Republicans seem more willing to send their soldiers to far away lands to fight. War is huge business.

When things happen that don't make sense, follow the money trail. 999/1000, you'll find the answer there.

Wedge issues like abortion, gay rights, racism, gun rights and so on - are just for the unwashed masses to argue over and look the other way, while billions and billions are siphoned off.

Cynical - yes. But probably an effective answer to why things are the way they are...

.
Very true !!!!

War is big business for only a few (which aren't involved in action) !!

Not for the national economy. Contrariwise , it ruins the national economy!
The tax payers money is running into the bags of the military industrial complex of a few companies and a few service conductors.

Soldiers are send into dead and can't participating at the national product any more.

Just an add.
