News from Shropshire.
A morris dance side (traditional English dance form for non Brits) who have, for over 500 years, blackened their faces while performing, have been banned from doing so because some pressure group threatened to sue the organisers for perceived racism. Who is being intolerant now? |

@bloke57: I believe that I have seen that type of face paint, from Al Jolson in the early 20th century, to J.D. Alder on the Jerry Springer show [!] ... I'm offended if someone tries to do it in a way that is supposed to mock African-Americans, but I don't think you would need the government to censor the performance. If anyone of a minority race found out about it, not only would they be offended, the person who did it might get beaten up or shot. It's a lot like putting inflammatory posts on Facebook, or in the words of Limp Bizkit, "Your mouth wrote a check that your ass couldn't cash!!!!"

Various surmises as to its origin include (a) hiding one's identity to keep the air of mystery, (b) a representation of night-time or (c) a representation of winter darkness (it is a fertility rite so that sort of thing was important in a basic, agrarian society). I'm sure there are African tribes who dance with white make-up to represent whatever their human concerns may be or may have been, but neither are in any way denigrating or slighting any other ethnic group. Any such suggestion is absurd. |

A wise friend of mine, a Sri Lankan, once said that "to have a tolerant society, it is as important not to needlessly take offence as it is not to needlessly give offence"
I live by that 100% which is why I did not wholeheartedly agree with the "I am Charlie" stuff. Freedom of expression is one thing - but deliberately going out to offend is another - so in that regard I concur with AmateurEmale. One branch of my family is very Christian - I am an atheist. Yet I willingly say grace before I eat their food. I'm not gonna sit there with my arms folded and say "your religion is meaningless to me" and not join in. That would be rude, divisive and self-indulgent and it does me no harm to enjoy the moment of togetherness. |

Bobblehead dolls oppress the indigenous people of the "continent" of Hawaii .
If you can listen to this without wanting to kill someone I applaud you . https://youtu.be/QhLuk45biCI |

Watching the Cricket this week, I noticed a gentleman wearing a Pakistan shirt, and waving the Union Flag.
I love this, it is exactly what the UK is about. Have pride in your history and culture, and in the Country you choose to live in. To me that sums up the "correct" in PC.

Free speech takes it on the chin again, this time it's Rutgers University.
As part of its 'language matters' (original, eh?) campaign, there are now posters in residence halls that basically tell students they should only speak when necessary.. in order to avoid what they call "microagressions". It's a ridiculous self-censorship campaign that is akin to being told to look both ways before you cross a busy freeway. If you need to be told this stuff, -- oh wait.. this is 2016. Never mind. Anyway, microagressions take on different forms including “microassaults,” “microinsults,” and “microinvalidations.” A microassault may include avoiding someone, while an example of a microinsult is telling someone they are strong for a girl. A microinvalidation, meanwhile, could involve asking an Asian or Latino person where they are from. Oh, the carnage! The whole story is here where there are even more ridiculous examples. Just when one may wonder whether they're getting their money's worth from today's academia. How in the hell anyone is supposed to keep track of all this stuff is beyond me.

Imagine a PC politician one day had the idea to put a Tax on free speech, you can say what you want, just put $5 in the poor jar first
