The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law, which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.

I noticed that the character of Martin Fowler in Eastenders is coming back with a different actor James Bye, but did you know there have been three other actors who played him. First in the 80s by David Scarborough, who later killed himself, then by Grange Hill and child actor Todd Carty. He later left the series(when diagnosed with AIDS-related illness but recovered) and was replaced by James Alexandrou - the character went on to marry Sonia -and this fourth incarnation by James Bye will arrived soon -it will look like marital trouble for him and his wife in on the horizon. That must be some kind of record-the same character played by 4 different actors?

Tracy Barlow is the same (Corrie) Christabel Finch was the first, then Holly Chamarette, Dawn Acton and now Kate Ford
Dawn used to have a sandwich shop not far from where I lived. She and her mum ran it. Finally I have seen Kate's tits (On holiday, sorry no camera with me at the time before you ask) Not that this is relevant to this thread.

Did you know there are two incidences of extra bits added to some songs. Here are two that I know of. The first is on Invisible Sun by The Police-right at the end(and it might just be the album version) you can hear Sting sing a line from musical film 'My Fair Lady' called 'Wouldn't It Be Luvverly' "All I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air!" The song about Northern Ireland is pretty bleak as is the video-it can be heard at the end of the video too.
Second is Madness's 'Michael Caine' where right at the end of the song on the album and cassette version but not the CD you can hear Michael say "I think we got it there don't you?" Any other incidences of extra stuff tacked on to a song-I am sure you can think of others.

Yes true but I meant soaps-for instance Lucy Beale(Eastenders) was played by 3 different girls at varying ages, and in America they replaced Miss Ellie with another actress when Barbara Bel Geddes died. It does seem odd that you replace one actress with another when really you should kill off the character and bring a new one in. TV Execs and Film Producers eh?
Did you know(according to a recent drama Micro Men based on Sir Clive Sinclair inventor of the Spectrum computer and the ill-fated C5 and his then partner Chris Curry who would leave and go on to create the BBC Microcomputer for said organisation AND beat Sinclair to the Government contract) that he was reputed to have called Sir Alan, now Lord Sugar, and former owner of AMSTRAD computers, a "jumped up, East End barrow boy" - seems that particular jumped up barra boy hasn't done too bad has he. Sir Clive was knighted eventually himself.
