Default Yandex - Image Search - WTF?

I have been using Yandex - Image search for many months, and found it very easy to use . . . just drag and drop any image into the designated slot on the image search screen, and marvel at the resulting finds.

It was working fine on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, but when I tried to use it on Wednesday, March 28 the page lay-out had changed, and the "drag & drop" function did not work.

Here is the current link;

https://yandex.com/images/

When I attempt to drag & drop and image, I got this screen (which I converted to English using Google Translate)

I could not get the drag & drop to work, so I downloaded an image onto my hard drive, and "selected" it manually using the button provided on the Yandex image search screen. That worked OK.

I then used some of the image search "returns" to test the drag & drop feature, and they worked OK. I then tried to drag and drop a thumbnail image from a VEF thread . . . . and it also worked OK.

However, if I clear the original search results and start fresh . . . . I have to do the manual "select" from my hard drive. It seems like the trick is to never clear the cache, and just piggy-back each new drag & drop search on the last page of search results.

I am beginning to wonder if I will have to trick Yandex image search into functioning at the beginning of each browsing session by uploading an image from my hard-drive in order to break the log-jam (or what ever it is that seems to block the initial "drag & drop" attempt).

So my questions are;

- Is anyone else encountering this problem?

- Could this a ploy be Yandex to trick people into registering an account with them?

Drag and drop works for me with Firefox 59.0.2 (64-bit), uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger.

Nice, I will use this more instead of google.

In past weeks I would occasionally get a pop-up message from Yandex image-search, indicating that they were concerned that I might be a robot, and asking me to enter a numerical code to confirm that I am a real person.

This pop-up has begun to appear with alarming frequency now, and I am wondering if other users of their image-search engine have encountered the same thing.

If you download the Yandex browser does the same thing happen?

Is Yandex a safe & reliable source for such a browser, or is it a trojan-horse for hackers?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can get that automated oops message a lot of ways and not all are bad

How can I get Google to stop thinking I'm a Bot?

The Yandex "bot" notification and "Capcha" curse has continued to plague my image-search activities over the past year; with varying degrees of intensity. And shortly after I wrote my post (above) the "drag & drop" feature started to work again in both Chrome and Opera.

Miracles do happen . . . . .(touch wood)!

Since May 24, 2019, I have not had a single instance of "Bot Notice" and "Capcha". It has been wonderful, and I hope it continues.

Not sure why anything happens at Yandex, but am grateful for the currently unimpaired access.

In my case the Yandex captcha never appears on the image search but almost every second time I do a regular keyword search. Not much of a problem.

I use the "select a file" button and then upload a pic to Yandex. I've found it extremely useful for hunting down more pics from a set and/or getting an ID on a performer.

Yandex Rules!!

For now...

Not sure what is happening today, but Yandex image-search appears to have lost some of its functionality.

There used to be a search filter in the upper right corner of the screen that you could set to "Unsecure" in order to obtain search results from all web-sites (including most adult/porn sites, and some that featured material banned at VEF).

This morning, I noticed that the content filter is gone.

I have run several images through the new image-search engine, and believe that the search results have been significantly watered down

The facial-recognition & spacial-recognition features appear to be less vigorous than in previous versions. I am not getting very many exact matches for images that should be widely posted across the www.

I am seeing a lot of results that appear to be main-stream non-adult content that have no connection to the image I am researching.

Wondering if yandex has decided to go the way of Google, and start limiting the effectiveness of its image-search engine to reduce the burden on its servers . . . . and/or maybe avoid government sanctions by "sanitizing" search results to specifically block links to some of the more extreme sites (including zoo & tender-age material).

Other opinions, or observations?
