Believe me, if you missed the seventies, you didn't miss anything. Now is a much better time to be alive.

With due respect Bollocks. I had my first shag in 1971, we didn't need video games or the internet we had real life. The age of Aquarious was fine but not all of us had big hair and mullets were for morons. I was 14 when the 70's started and had never had a pint. It was a great time to be alive.

It was pretty crap, mini skirts had turned into maxi dresses, just as I was getting interested, there was good music about, but all you ever heard was disco and utterly bland pop, strikes, the 3 day week, and finally the ultimate horror Thatcher, with her plan to turn us all into, slaves of the banks

My God! Where were you?

You can't bring Thatcher into it. She heralded the horrors of the 80s - my worst decade. The 80s also gave us the AIDS scare which ended the free and easy sex life I enjoyed in the 70s. All of a sudden a terrible word appeared in the language - condom!

OK I'm far too young and virile to talk about sex in the seventies but if there was so much partying and free love why did nearly everyone still get married by their early twenties and settle down to a life of nappies and domestic drudgery?

Also why were they queuing up in their hundreds at the cinema (in their hometown where everyone could see them) to watch the Robin Asquith 'Confessions' movies just to glimpse a bit of tit.

Me neither Bloke57.

I actually had regular girlfriends through 6th form and uni, it was when I got my first job, flat and car that I found freedom. A freedom that I took full advantage of.

I remember the black outs in 73/74 when Joe Gormley led the Miners, and Heath, (surely one of the most embarrassing PM's we've ever had) tried to make it into a battle about who ruled the country. Doing my homework by candlelight. Roxy Music and Lindisfarne at the City Hall, Sailor and Fox at the Coatham Bowl and a young Chris Rea playing the piano at Filmores at Saltburn on Thursday nights.
Never saw a Confessions film, never needed to. It was a time of Monty P and the Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles and many other films that were funny.

Didn't do gap years and had to work hard, but was able to buy my first house at the end of the decade (saved hard no holidays).

There were many things wrong, being told I had to join a Union or else, but I had a bloody good time in the 70's even with my relatively short hair and cords rather than jeans.

Similar for me - but girls started at 5th form.

I had a lot of freedom - family circs meant I had the house to myself a lot, so plenty of opportunity...even lunch breaks!! One girlfriend just seemed to lead to another.

Great bands - you could wander into any pub in London 75 to 76 and find something brilliant. I remember calling at a pub in Fulham to find some up and coming band called "The Stranglers" - wonder what happened to them?

Had a banana yellow Dolomite to get around in and just having a car was a big pulling point. Uni was fab too. 'Appy daze!
