Bachelor Meals
I have been a bachelor for a very long time.
Frankly most frozen meals are pretty awful and takeaway in Australia is a very limited resource and also quite expensive. I thought that I would share some of my ideas for quick easy meals here. I am not a fan of spending a lot of time in the kitchen slaving over a warm microwave so the emphasis here will be on quick and easy. Hope you enjoy the meals and ideas I am going to share. |

First is a breakfast dish I call potato omelette.
Ingredients 1 medium potato grated. 1 egg Optional chives and salt. Directions Crack the egg in a bowl add the grated potato chives and a pinch of salt. Mix Well than drop into a oiled frypan. Flatten out like a large hash brown and square up the sides. Cook till browned on both sides then serve with your favourite sauce. i like HP sauce but I doubt that is available in all countries. |

Chicken Breasts
Buy 1 Kilo (4 x Chicken Breasts) Marinade, Honey soy or teriyaki Chicken tonight sauce, sweet and sour, honey mustard or satay are all good. Frozen stir fry veges Bacon Cut the breasts so you have 3 equal portions from 2 breasts Place the 2 small pieces together and dice them up into bite size pieces. Put these into plastic containers, label and freeze place the larger pieces into plastic containers pierce with a fork and pour over some marinade. Place a slice of shortcut bacon on top, label and freeze. When you feel like a stir fry take a container out the freezer drop in a frying pan till mostly cooked. Add some stir fry veges. After 5 minutes or so add the stir fry sauce. Serve with rice. The larger whole pieces are for roast chicken dinner. Place a piece of tinfoil on the bench and fold up the sides. Dump the chicken into the foil tray with the bacon on top. Roast for about 35 minutes. If you are having roast potatoes with it put the potatoes in 10 to 15 minutes before depending on the size. Put some stir fry veges in a tinfoil packet with some grated cheese on top close the foil over it and bake for 30 minutes. The best thing about this is no standing around in the kitchen just chuck everything in the oven and keep a eye on the timing. |

I've always been a bachelor also but I've been lucky enough to usually be with a woman. But, once in a while I do have to cook for myself. One simple meal I make follows.
1 English Muffin (toasted) 1 egg (I like them over easy but its really your choice) 1+ slice of cheese (your choice) Start by putting the muffin in the toaster. Then put a tablespoon (or so) of butter in a small frying pan and making the egg however you want it. When the muffin is done, stick both sides in with the egg (very briefly), put the cheese slice on the bottom portion of the muffin and then stick the egg on top of the cheese. Finally, stick the muffin top on the bottom or just make two of these. Really pretty tasty. Sometimes, you can also add some jam or jelly. If you don't want to spend a lot of time cooking, one or two of these are just what the doctor ordered. Takes maybe 20 minutes total. |

Strammer Max
I will use pictures for this recipe since I'm stupid, and sometimes not sure if I'm using the correct English terms. Well, what do we need? 2 slices of brown bread http://www.begle-brot.at/uploads/tx_...brot_slide.jpg Of course, depending on your taste, any other type of bread can be used. I personally prefer the type pictured. a 200g piece of Black Forest ham http://www.schwarzwald.com/besichtig...r-schinken.jpg Alternatively, any other ham. But Black Forest ham would be ideal. It has an extremely intense smoke flavor because it is smoked over pinewood. A little pricey but very yummy. 2-3 pickles http://www.menshealth.de/media/mh-23...00x533.jpg.jpg olive oil some medium hot mustard http://www.bautzner-senfladen.de/sho...images/9_0.JPG You can also use Dijon mustard as substitute. 2 eggs some fresh chives Or fresh parsley. some freshly ground pepper Salt is not necessary because the ham itself contains a lot of salt. Preparation : Fry the bread slices slightly from both sides in some olive oil. Kinda like toast. Then remove the slices from the pan and brush them with some mustard. Do not take too much mustard, it spoils the flavor composition. Cut the ham and the pickles into small cubes. Mix them together, and fry the mixture with some olive oil until the ham is well done. Pour the mixture onto the bread slices. Now comes the complicated part. We make two fried eggs, but pay attention that the yolks remain liquid. That is a really important part of the future enjoyment. If the fried eggs are done, spread each one on each slice of bread. Serve with freshly ground pepper and chives (or parsley, or both). Before eating, pierce the liquid egg yolk and distribute it evenly over your hearty Gourmet artwork. Preparation time about 10 to 15 minutes. As matching drink I recommend a cool Pilsener. http://www.bestbeerhq.com/wp-content...uell-glass.jpg Voilą. Bon appetit! |
