In many ways Kennedy's reputation was saved by the assassination. If he had lived, he would have been stuck with the Vietnam debacle. Had he bailed on it, the narrative would be that "he lost Vietnam or caved to the Communists." If he followed Johnson's path his legacy would bear that.

Since we cannot speak ill of a young man brutally slain at the side of his beautiful wife, we are left with his facing down Khrushchev in the Cuban missile crisis and ignoring his many missteps. The simple fact is that JFK was probably the biggest lightweight elected after 1928 and before 2016.

Default Elizabeth Warren vows to break up tech giants if elected in 2020

US Democrat Elizabeth Warren has proposed breaking up tech giants like Amazon, Facebook and Google if elected to the US presidency in 2020.

Seeking to stand out in a crowded Democratic field, Ms Warren told a crowd in Queens, New York, that she was "sick of freeloading billionaires".

Her regulatory plan would reverse some tech mergers and stop companies from competing on their own platforms.

This would promote competition and safeguard small businesses, she said.

Ms Warren pinpointed the Amazon acquisition of WholeFoods as one she would reverse, along with Facebook's merger with WhatsApp and Instagram, and Google's with Waze.

And she said she would halt practices such as Amazon selling on its own Amazon Marketplace platform.

She outlined her proposals in a post on the website Medium. The companies have not yet commented.

As an American I hope Trump gets reelected... the absolute #1 job of a president is to see his country prosper and the USA has prospered ENORMOUSLY since he took office. He's the first president to do this since Reagan, who was arguably the best president we ever had. I do not care at all, not one iota, about anything Trump says or does otherwise. As long as the money flows like wine, the rest will take care of itself.

I do not think we could survive another Obama, Bush Jr or Clinton. We must think as the Japanese do, that a country is a business and must be run like one. Politics are for royalty, let the queen and hollywood actors do the glad handing. We need a businessman running the country, bottom line.

This is the case in DC probably but not where I and the majority of Americans happen to live....

How about telling them to open the dam so it flows downstream to the rest of us.

Trump has been lucky that we have been on a mainly upward economic cycle since he has been president. It is said Bush Senior lost to Clinton because the economy tanked prior to the election - it didn't go down because of any one thing Bush did, it was just a downward part of the economic cycle. So to say that Trump is the main reason the economy has been good is..........not accurate.

I just hope the economy doesn't tank in the next two years or we will certainly get an AOC type spend and tax Dem in the White House.

I say Trump's problem is to most people the economy has not been good. Yes unemployment's down but at the same time labor share of income has been staying low. some people in the whole it working harder and longer hours for Less pay. basically the stock market is just indicating how well the investor class is robbing the working class in the working class beginning to understand that fact so I say there's trouble ahead.

funny, the right always cries about shoveling all is dead on the future Generations if they never want to pay taxes to prevent that from happening. I'm starting to believe they're just paying lip service but what do I know...

Did you mean "shoveling all of its debt on the future Generations" - ? I agree with you.

That's why I'd like a Margaret Thatcher type of politician to bring down spending and to pay off debt.

However, whenever I have been with a group of people deciding on a budget, they look at my "save money/cut expenses" ideas as crazy and I always got out voted.

Pretty much, people who get to decide how to spend a group's money - don't want to save it - from my experience.

I think you'll find that the sort of austerity Mrs Thatcher introduced in her first term of office is only politically possible in response to a huge crisis in public finances, much as Britain experienced in the 1970s. It was a disastrous error in strategy which cruelly damaged Britain's manufacturing sector.

The last US president who really adopted austerity was Herbert Hoover, and after ninety years Americans have not forgotten or forgiven him.

The fatal flaw in Keynes' theory. Lawmakers in democracies and republics never want to cut spending and pay off debt. Handing out goodies that somebody else is to pay for is much more popular. The Who may hope that "We don't get fooled again," but we the voters continue to fool ourselves that the bucks don't come from our pockets. We continue to vote for the free lunch that is impossible.
