Because in Switzerland women can abort until 12 weeks and it's possible to know the gender. Knowing that several communities culturally or religiously prefer boy to girl, it's better to prevent the risk. On several areas of this planet, girls are still watched as bad gender. They cost money to the family in case of marriage, they do not keep the name of the father, etc... Not all the countries get the same culture as Australia or France. Not all the cultures are female friendly. So what happens when people of these cultures live in Australia and they can know the gender of the foetus? That's the reason of the debate. But apart the cultural question, there also are capricious parents. They already have 3 boys and want a girl. Not everybody is like you and me, respecting the natural process of creation. |

The Iowa Supreme Court overturned a recent Iowa law restricting abortion as unconstitutional under Iowa's state constitution. The ruling is 92 pages long, but I found it to be interesting reading. Did you know that 75% of women seeking abortions are low income? Over 50% live below the federal poverty limit. The imposition of the waiting limits has the effect of pushing women beyond the period where chemical means can be used and into the more expensive and dangerous surgical intervention. Did you know a pregnant woman who continues to carry the child is 14 times more likely to die from complications as a result than those who abort? No wonder we don't let men have the babies.
https://www.iowacourts.gov/courtcase...meCourtOpinion The ruling discusses many things, such as the large number of women in abusive relationships, unwanted pregnancies caused by contraceptive failures, the greatly increased risk of being murdered that these women face, and finally the financial burdens being imposed on women as a result of these types of laws. Here is an interesting quote from the opinion: Quote:
Oddly, over half of Iowas voters believe abortion should be legal in all cases and 71% disagree with their legislature's decision to eliminate Planned Parenthood funding. Hopefully, the women get out the vote and get rid of politicians out of touch with their electorate. |
