I think it's safe to say my line of thinking follows Qwerty007. It's her body. I might not like what she does with it, but it's not my decision.

Not disagreeing so much as simply pointing out two people in a married relationship complicates things if they find themselves at odds over this issue, but hopefully that's also one of those things that comes up in some way, shape, or form during the dating phase. Maybe right after questions about what side of the bed the person prefers and wheather they like Metallica or Lady Gaga...."Say honey.....um....."

Sure, but that's a relationship question. People stay together even though they may have differing opinions.

Point is - if she gets pregnant and doesn't want to have children, at the end of the day, there should be no laws or legislation that should impede her from having an abortion. Regardless of her relationship status.

You wanna have a discussion - cool. Have a talk. If she says no...it's no.

I'm probably just simple minded in my view that a marital union doesn't trump a woman's right to decide what to do with her body. Not really sure what's complicated about it. I don't have to like it. I don't have to continue the relationship, etc.

To me it's a woman's right. A right that is not extinguished, or subject to veto, merely because of a civil union.

Time to open another can of worms.

When does "Life" begin ?

At 12 weeks ?

At birth ?

When the swimmer breaks into the egg ?

Roe v Wade is a reasonable decision in a very controversial subject.

I did have a friend who found out that his wife had an abortion without telling him (during their marriage) - he said her thought process was that she was considering a divorce (which she did do) and didn't want to have a child involved in the decision. My thoughts were that it might have been a red headed kid or a kid of a slightly off color hue. He did say it was the only time he felt like hitting a woman.

The arguments in the US, always seem to be more Religion than Humanity based. For many years, young girls from Ireland have come to the UK to have abortions, a lot of these whre the victims of rape, in Ireland it mattered not, they where not going to get an abortion.

The simple truth is that in that circumstance an abortion should be immediately available, not just for the victims sake, but the child's, it would be impossible, in my view, to have a normal mother child relationship when every time you look at the child you relive the rape.

I believe too that the right to choose is absolute, and believe that in most European Countries we have it about right!

I'm with Rupert the right to choose is absolute. However, I have known three women who have had abortions (No I wasn't responsible). Two were very badly emotionally scarred by the process and one treat it as some form of contraception. Women should be warned that emotionally it may well damage them for many years.

Unfortunately, here in the US, we have too many people who cling to the absurd belief that if you are told that you can't do something, people won't do it. This is best shown in an episode of M*A*S*H where Major Burns becomes temporary CO and bans gambling on the base. One soldier loses $300 in a poker game, but tells Frank that it was stolen. When Hawkeye and BJ tell Frank about the game, Frank's response is "Gambling is illegal, there is no gambling. Therefore, the money was stolen."

American history is full of such efforts, such as Prohibition, marijuana and other drug use and abortion.

BTW, pro-choice.

Love that episode. He brought up Hawkeye on court martial charges.

Remember when he realized that the M in MASH meant MOBILE, so he moved them across the road one day - and back the next?

Methinks Major Frank Burns would make a wonderful anti-abortion, pro-gun, pro death penalty supporter.
