What's a good cheap meal that you like to fix for yourself?
Due to budget constraints, I am wondering what you guys cook for yourselves - that fits the requirements of edible and cheap.

I don't think the vast majority here has to worry about the costs of their meals since it gets served by their mothers free of charge.
Personally i cook mostly for more than one day at the time with ingredients that are for sale but i also "allow" myself to pick twice a week expensive fish or meat like lamb or beef tenderloin for example.

There is one dish that I make for family gatherings - not exactly cheap but really idiot proof. Garlic shrimp with french bread.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzPAeP8flMk&t=2s Made it like 5 times so far and no one has thrown up and no complaints - a few requests for the link to the video. |

I have to be in the mood, but when I am you can't beat bangers and mash with onion gravy. The best thing to come out of Ol' Blighty since Mal Hombre.

Weenies and Beanies: Hot dogs and baked beans, 28oz can of baked beans and a package of 8 hotdogs. Cut up the hot dogs into slices. Place beans and hotdogs in a baking dish and microwave. Or bake it in the oven or throw it into a pot on the stove and heat it through. Cut up an onion if desired. Can stretch it to at least two meals depending on how hungry you are. Total cost is about $5.50 USD.
Spaghetti and red sauce with Italian sausage. 1lb box of pasta .99 cents. 24 oz. jar of Prego sauce is a $1.99. A pound of Italian sausage links is about $4.00. I make half at a time. A half pound of pasta, sausage and half a jar of sauce is a very large portion. $6.98 total or $3.49 a meal. Chili: million ways to make it but a large pot should last a few meals. To avoid boredom you can make chili-cheese dogs with it. Also can eat it over mashed potatoes to stretch it even further. --

I used to buy Knorr's tomato sopa from WalMart for 50 cents a piece. Make one of those, add some cilantro, cheese, and lime juice. Quick easy meal for maybe $1. Really good on those cold days. Then the bastards stopped selling the things in their store here. Only ones I could find online were way beyond 50 cents. I don't remember exactly how much, but not worth the price.
My go to is pulled pork. A local grocery store has Boston Butts for about 1.79 to 1.94 a pound...just depends on the week. Smoke that, I have 5 pounds of pulled pork that cost about $10 for the whole thing. |

A cup of 2 minute noodles, beef flavour. Get a fistful of diced bacon and nuke it.
Drain the water from the noodles and throw in the bacon then add a huge tablespoon of full fat cream cheese and let it melt in with some help stirring it in your arteries will thank you for it

I bought an air fryer - tried to make onion rings.
Ended up with a pile of battered onions with a pancake like layer in the bottom of the catch all device. Doesn't look anything like the picture that was with the recipe. Doesn't taste horrible. Will have to watch videos on how to make onion rings with an air fryer. |
