This trash show is the most expensive "music" event in the world. There have been recent calls in the EU for boycotting the Euro 2012 in Ukraine/Poland due to the persecutions led against the opposition (the Yulia Tymoshenko case) which might make you think the EU is truly worried about the violation of human rights. However no voice was raised to boycott the Song Contest in Baku. Azerbaijan is actually a dictatorship, owned by a few families and whose opposition faces the same repressions, if not worse than in the Ukraine. But as long as its ruler is "pro-Western", meaning he's willing to create a "desirable climate for investment" in the interest of German, French, British, American etc. corporations, how can he possibly be a dictator?
And why waste time on this trash show anyway? It's the same procedure every year. I'm glad Austria didn't make it to the finals, otherwise it would've been Austria's dumbest contribution in the history of the so-called Song Contest. But it's not dumber than so many others that did qualify for the finals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6IKH...eature=related Here's a caricature by Manfred Deix from the recent weekly magazine News: |

Watched this with my family:
1. Englebert was awful - should never have got as far as the stage. Just sad. 2. The winning song was crap euro MoS wannabe sung by Bjorks big sister - piffle 3. The most entertaining? Turkey without a doubt - staggeringly inept song about sailing coming back or somesuch twaddle, camp as a feather boa around a daffodil and doubtless will feature in a Sacha Baron Cohen film shortly. We were cheering loudly for them but they were left back in the also-rans. 4. the real star was the 'grow a beard so you look less effeminate' male presenter, with a permanently fixed rictus grin. 5. Jedward did a neat line in silly jumps but fell disappointingly short of being really rubbish. 6. Sebia - shite song, but came second. Wierd. They obviously have friends. God knows why. Over all, somewhat underwhelming. Oh, and yes, the point awarding was entirely, monotonously predictable. |

The points awarding could have been done automatically - for years now voting has been largely political. I'm pleased the UK entry was by a rather sad old no-hoper - let's face it, if we'd won it, we'd have to host it next year and having to fund this drivel at home would be an utter disgrace....

Nina Zilli was the best. I'm not telling that because I'm Italian, because she's got a wonderful voice, she's talented like no other, and that song was beautiful
