This was only ten or so years ago - community policing units were established by the then Labour government under Blair and worked well. We had a "cell" of six local cops - three officers & two PSOs under a sergeant (Steve). The station they served out of was closed four years back - two other local stations closed a bit before that. Now even the little one in the main town centre is under threat. I can't speak for wherever you live of course, but the Met. police were very effective at a local level at that point. Now, even in this quite affluent London suburb, we are seeing gang related incidents occurring like never before. |

I'm a lifelong Londoner and I think Khan is the worst mayor we've yet had.
<rant> Boris was a scheming opportunist but at least he got some things done - his cycle superhighways buggered up traffic for the rest of us and his buses (good idea in theory) are impractical in practice. Khan says all the right things but gets nothing done - although he should bankrupt London Transport soon. I will admit he's good at sending the police off on Politically Correct causes to keep them from - fighting crime. I hated Red Ken - but that was politics he did a goodish job in the end. I loathe Khan because he's ineffectual. </rant> |
