Saw them live in 1979 at B'ham Top Rank , they were pretty good at that stage. I think maybe Strummer should have done what Paul Weller did with The Jam and start over with something else as what they became wasn't what The Clash were originally about ( to me anyway ) . Weller had the guts to move on from The Jam when he knew the material they were coming up with wasn't what The Jam had been about . |

I was and still am into punk, SLF, Crass, Conflict, Mob, and a few obscurer bands (Drongos for Europe, The Fits,to name two)
Agree about the latter stuff of the Clash, but first 2 albums and London Calling will always be listened to by me. Also, Joe Strummer did do a fair few other projects, and though these and some other stuff were not everyones cup of tea, they at least had the courage to do different things. P.S. Glad to see so many Sir Cliff haters here |

Bono
Quote:
Seems they were doing a concert in Scotland. During the show Bono asked for complete silence while he was standing alone on the stage in a spotlight. He started clapping his hands every 3 seconds. After a while he said: "Everytime I clap my hands, a small child in Afrika dies". Then a very drunk Scotsman shouts: "Then stop clapping your hands, you asshole!!!". I still laugh when I think of this story. Stick to your music, Bono!!! |

Another band from that era of punk I liked were Uproar ( from Blackpool I think) . I think the later bands were more honest but maybe far less original as punk became more uniform by 1984 .... good bands none the less. It aqs a shame it split into faction - oi , hardcore, anarcho , original punk etc . If only they listened to Jimmy Pursey - "If the kids are united " .Alas it wasn't to be . |

I deleted them because a member used the rather derogatory term, "shirt lifter", which was them quoted by yourself and another poster. There really is no need for that sort of language. And no, i'm not a closet Cliff fan.....or Cliff, himself.
