The incredible thing about the Steele Dossier is how good Steele's sources (some apparently now dead) were. This kind of raw intelligence is usually filled with rumor and such, that's what "raw" means . . . "stuff someone said"

As time wears on, we find stuff like this-- just astonishing.

Why the hell didn't the US Government know and act on this at the time?

How exactly would the government unless Obummer had signed off on an order to have everyone in the Trump campaign put under surveillance which....ummmm....is NOT something democracies like the US do. And yes, yes, you can go ahead and say, "Oh yeah, what about J. Edgar Hoover, huh, what about him??!!"

What Steele was hearing clearly wasn't that carefully hidden.

The real reason we didn't have our eyes on this ball is that our intelligence agencies shifted their analytical focus to chasing al Qaeda and ISIS.

Its clear that we had the capability to track all these things technologyically-- we were sweeping up all the cell phone data. We just didn't have anyone actually looking at it.

I'd add, the story with the Trump Foundation is another shocker. Apparently no one looked at it until the Washington Post ran a story-- its ridiculously and egregiously in violation of the law on foundations.

That article got posted on a right of center forum and they started to blame the media and the poster (one of which was me) for the thread and for not blacking out the faces.
