I agree, and it got me thinking - how much do PB use the opportunities of mirrors to show more of the pl@ymates? Specially their buns? A quick look down the vaults gave the following exemplars from the 80s going forward.

1980s: Lesa Ann Pedriana (04/1984), Carmen Berg (07/1987) & Renee Tenison (11/1989).


1990s: Cynthia Gwyn Brown (05/1995), Kimber West (02/1997) & Jessica Lee (08/1996).


2000s: Anka Romensky (02/2002), Destiny Davis (08/2004), Giuliana Marino (04/2007), Regina Deutinger (04/2008), Valerie Mason (09/2008) & Amanda Cerny (10/2011).


So, mirror shots seem to get more prevalent in the 2000s: who would have guessed?
One notices that several of the examples above use the mirror more as a prop, and obstruct most of its reflection. In fact, as regards to the Frontal+Backshot combination, only 3 (Cynthya Brown, Anka Romensky & Amanda Cerny) take full advantage of it, adding the rare Double Butt shot of Destiny Davis. The rest are mostly or partially covered or the pose not chosen as to give a full frontal and backside view.
As to why and why not one would choose to utilise the opportunities offered by the reflected mirror image, there are surely lots of reasons. From personal preference of the photographer and/or editor, changing fashions in photography, the very look from different angles of the models, etc. Some practical considerations that make some shots more complicated than others do come to mind.

• The CFs very format, with it's narrow and vertical shape, complicate any configuration that pulls out of a strict center line - such as a mirror shot, which broadens the picture's motif.
• Mirrors create reflections that make the setup, angle and lightning of the picture more sensitive and time-consuming. Specially considering the advanced lightning and fixed, slow-focusing cameras used for the CF itself.
• Mirror shots, specially full-body ones, are more demanding for the model - not only is she more exposed and has almost no angle where she can relax her posture, but the pose itself tends to become more forced, more contorted and so more difficult to get right.

This was something of a tangent, but it does connect somewhat with why and how much Pl@yboy's photographers and editors want do deviate from the Standing Full Frontal view and aesthetic (e.g. by going for butt shots, mirrors, lying down shots etc.) that has been prevalent through the Bunny Mags existence.

Lindsey Vuolo, PM of November 2001, stands out as one of the lovelier of pl@ymates of the 2000s and forwards IMO. Not least on account of her yummy buttocks.

The very beautiful Patty Duffek, Miss May 1984, wisely featured earlier in this thread, but with only one photo.
