Mugabe named as goodwill ambassador by WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has appointed President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe as a "goodwill ambassador" to help tackle non-communicable diseases.

New WHO head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised Zimbabwe for its commitment to public health.

But critics say that during Mr Mugabe's 37-year rule Zimbabwe's health services have deteriorated, with staff regularly unpaid and medicines in short supply.

Dr Tedros, who is Ethiopian, is the first African to lead the WHO.

He was elected with a mandate to tackle perceived politicisation in the organisation.

Dr Tedros replaced Margaret Chan, who stepped down from her 10-year post in June.

To those poor souls who have previously suffered under Mr Mugabe's "goodwill" they must think the world has gone stark, raving, batshit CRAZY...

If it's on the web, it must be true.

Seemingly not true. Just interesting that they look so much alike.

I don't follow Canadian politics so I have no idea why some people hate him.

WHO's next appointment will be Jimmy Saville to look after healthcare for children.

I do recall Margaret Trudeau was going commando and showing bush in public in the late 70's. This was the 79 photo I remember - Studio 54 during her separation from the Prime Minister. I did not think I would ever want to see a president's wife do such a thing, but maybe with Melania my mind has changed.

She did announce that she was bipolar in 2006 which may explain her banging a Kennedy and half of the Rolling Stones - or maybe she just wanted to sell her book.

Apparently the British Government has complained to the WHO about the decision, warning the appointment could ‘overshadow’ the organisation’s efforts to tackle global health.
You couldn't make this up - the World Health Organization (WHO) is part of the United Nations, who has imposed a trade embargo on arms deals against Zimbabwe!!!

According to news reports, last year the UN dropped the superhero Wonder Woman as a honorary ambassador for "empowering girls and women" after the decision drew widespread criticism.
At this rate I wouldn't be suprised the UN hasn't contacted Harvey Weinstein to replace Wonder Woman instead...

Or as we in my UN department call them WTF! I often get introduced to good will ambassadors from the various factions, often minor 'personalities' that no one has ever heard off, actors and actresses that you ask yourself 'Why?' and they seem as confused about what they are supposed to do as the host nations representatives are about who they are.

But the greatest single appointment of all time was the disease, Tony Blair being appointed to the Middle East, a man seen by most Muslims as a crusader, who had started wars in four Muslim countries, and the ultimate white crusader, an appointment which was objected to by eleven Muslim Nations, but still went ahead, and during his reign, he showed such blatant bias towards Israel, that eleven countries asked for his removal, to no avail.

We are trying to do the best job we can for all Nations, regardless of colour or religion, but this sort of thing makes our job harder, because it seriously damages our credibility!

Should UNO remove the veto right ?
Should the blue helmet soldiers have the right to fight against several wicked dictatorships instead to let USA, NATO or Russian armies to intervene when they want for their own interests?
