Far and away, nothing in the world equals durian. It smells like a combination of a rank pussy, the rotting feet of a man dead for four months, and the infected anus of a sheep. (Not that I've smelled any of those things, but if I had, I would've said, "Hmm, that smells remarkably like a durian. For those who are unaware, it's a fruit found in Southeast Asia. To give you an idea of the intensity of the stench this fruit emits, you can't have one in any public place in Singapore. You can go to jail or be severely punished for even holding onto an uncut one in public. My first encounter with durian was my first time in Indonesia. Our hosts served it for dessert. I thought I was being poisoned. Seriously. There are very few things in the world as vile as durian.

I eat raw hamburger when I am making Spaghetti sauce, love it (not as I have gotten older though only because I don't want to get sick). I like Cows Brains, love Escargot.

40 years ago my father made us eat Brussels Sprouts, the first and last time! I could not finish the first bite before I was ready to vomit; not kidding. We had to finish them and I was gagging the entire time. Finally just swallowing them whole and washing them down. The texture, the taste, the smell, the way they look! So fucking gross!

I will never ever eat Brussels Sprouts again in my life!

Raw minced pork/veil on bread is delicious! Though most of the world seems to shiver at the idea of raw meat (while bragging about sushi...)

I remember as a kid i had to eat at last a few of these sprouts when they were served (all my family loved them - must be a belgian thing - so we had them regularly...), one time i even tried to put ketchup on them to hide the taste (no one said HOW i had to finish them)

Still tasted bad, of course.

Edit: still i would eat a pot of sprouts instead of a plate of durian.

When friends found out I liked to eat raw hamburger they would say that was really gross and really stupid; until one friend said "well some people would call that steak tartare"

Add steak tartare to the list of foods I hate. Why ruin perfectly good hamburger with all that crap. I thought it was disgusting.

This:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menudo_(soup)

I had a friend in the 90's who is from El Salvador and he said this was the best thing to eat after a night of drinking and to cure a hung over.

YUCK!

I draw my line at eating internal organs and the "scrap" part of any animals:

beef tripe, beef and pork livers, pig ears, chicken livers, chicken gizzards, heart of any animals, tongue, brain (my Mom made pork brain soup one time about 40 years ago, the first time and only time and last time), fish heads soup, chicken feet, pig feet, ox tails, and any other so called offal, etc etc

I agree that steak tartare doesn't look appealing, that's indeed just raw hamburger... The way we have 'filet americain' here in Belgium is without the egg. The minced pork + veil is much better, has more fat, taste and tastes smoother. It has to be very fresh and with the correct spicing though.

We also have something called "americain préparé" and "Martino" (raw minced beef with mayo, salt, pepper, etc... and in the case of Martino there's spicy hot sauce and/or mustard mixed in as well, i think. Popular as a spread on baguettes.

I just wonder, Is that a thing outside Belgium/Holland? I'm starting to guess it is not

I once did a "Bushtucker Challenge" for charity the final challenge was Surströmming.

Copy and paste into your favourite browser it's truly revolting. Is this really a Swedish rite of passage?

Au contrair, mon frere. Steak Tartare is delicious. Especially when prepared fresh, table side at the Claridge Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With a good claret.

Argentinian beef is the best in the world. (Where's my "yummy" emoji?)

And that's the key to eating what some people might consider disgusting isn't it: who prepared the food, top notch chef?

I had the most unbelievable sweet breads (cow brains) with lobster and scallops in a cream sauce in New York at a top restaurant. That was years ago and my mouth is watering thinking about it!

Really with the steak tartare I hate raw eggs, hate capers, in fact I hate most if not all of the other ingredients so.....
