That is perfectly true but many of us have been premium members of hosts in the past but ended up getting burned. e.g. Rapidshare - now closed entirely. Mediafire - I had my paid-for account closed and Oron - it closed down part way through my subscription period. There are many other examples of course. So we not only lose the links but we also lose money and that is why I (and many others) now use a free host. And some members here now refuse to re-up dead links at all any more.

After uploading to 1fichier as a free user for many months, I finally paid for a premium membership at 1fichier last year and have been very happy with their service.
I was one of the few lucky ones who kept his premium rapidshare account without paying anything since 2007 (due to accumulated credits for past downloads that were grandfathered into later rule changes). But I still had to re-up many of my files several times because of copyright complaints, etc. and it was a lot of work to keep those links updated. I had a megaupload account that I used to mirror my RS links, but that account got hijacked and I never got any response from MU when I complained, so I eventually abandoned that account -- not long before MU was seized and shut down by the US. And I also tried several of the multi-hosters, who re-up your files to several filehosts and claim that they will keep them alive indefinitely, but most of those links died anyway. Despite all those hassles with past file hosts, I still am willing to pay (albeit less than other file hosts charge) for a premium 1fichier account, because they are friendly to free users, with faster download speeds than most, no capchas and no waiting between downloads. And it's easy to upload via FTP, which means no worries about interrupted/disconnected uploads -- FileZilla just resumes uploading without having to start over again. I upload all my files via FTP, and keep a tab open in Firefox with the 1fichier FTP Management webpage, just click on "Publish Uploaded Files" (Publication mode: manual; and tick the box "Receive publication reports by email") and I get an email with the links to all my recently uploaded files. I then copy the links and paste them into the FileFactory remote upload webpage, and I've got a set of mirror links at FF within a minute or two. Occasionally, but not too often, one of the files gets corrupted during the upload, so having a set of mirror links increases the odds that at least one set of links will allow downloaders to get the uncorrupted files and ultimately get a working vid.

I have a similar history to Denaniel with regards to file hosts. Gone through the loops with Rapidshare and various multi hosters. All to no avail. I had a lifetime membership at Megaupload signed up a month before they were taken down . So I'm reluctant to spend money on premium memberships.
But 1fichier is the exception. 50 gb max size on individual files, unlimited storage, reasonable speed - all at a ridiculous low price. I have close to 14TB stored at 1fichier. I can't see any other hoster close to the deal offered by 1fichier - all things considered. My only worry is exactly that it is too good to be true. Either they go Rapidshare and alienate their customers or there will be a Megaupload, Filesonic crackdown... Last edited by kogi; April 3rd, 2015 at 01:20 PM.. |

Over the past couple of weeks, when I've clicked on a link it just jumps to an advertising site. Any idea why?

You could also try AdwCleaner to check if your puter is clean and free of any malware.

Problem with 1fichier
I am a free downloader. My DSL is extremely slow at times and at best runs at .65. I use JDownloader 2 almost exclusively.
Up until several weeks ago, downloading links from 1fichier was a "piece of cake." Now it has become impossible (for me) to complete a file download. It starts off as before, but before the download completes, which at my speed, takes many hours, the download stops and the "resume" symbol disappears on the JD 2 line display. When the download starts up again it doesn't resume but re-starts back at the beginning. I've let JD 2 run, for over 24 hours at times, and it never completes the 1fichier download. It constantly stops at various points of completion and when it re-starts (after the 4 minute wait) it doesn't resume, but starts back at the beginning. I've tried a number of different links from many different threads and the results are always the same. In some cases I've found other links for the same video from other download sites and have been able to obtain the video in that way. I use to look for 1fichier links because they were so easy to download. Now I have given up trying to download any videos linked from 1fichier. Has 1fichier changed its handling of free downloads? |
