First bush in Playboy? - Page 2

Wondering if some of the above posts are showing PB images from their website that might have been in their archives but not acutually published in the magazine. I think many models had full bush shots taken that weren't published. The time lapse dancer was the first I remember seeing in the actual magazine. Not that I was actually alive and reading every issue at that distant point in the past...ahem.

Here we see Miss June 1966, Kelly Burke, concealing nearly all of what appears to be a quite nice, quite dark, thatch of pubes. I wish I could see more of it.

And here, you kind of need to squint, but unless she is sharing those rocks with an especially friendly squirrel...

Floydfreak's reply near the top of this thread features this interesting picture.

Here Pompeo Posar surrounds his subject in a variety of furs, emphasizing the soft and luxurious appeal. One could suppose that he intended this photograph, if published, to challenge the notion of pubic hair as obscene with a visual argument for the undeniable beauty of fur. Alas, it was another two and a half years before Pl@yboy allowed its talent to truly begin to lodge that argument.

The digital version of Melodye's Centerfold reveals more than the original printed version. Peeking out from behind one of the best fig leafs the photographers contrived.

And here's a couple for you to squint at. The first one is from the Pl@ymate Review of 1968. As published in the January 1969 issue. If you think you can see anything at all, that should count as an early appearance of bush in Pl@yboy Magazine.

And before I leave the topic of Melodye, allow me to direct you to thor_rjc's excellent scans of her original layout. No pubes, but boy is she beautiful. And, you can see how she created an archetype of a hipster artsy chick. When you hear the name Melody (or Melodye) don't you picture a girl just like our Miss July of 1968?

Stellar is right. Many of those shots would have been "outtakes" or cropped in such a way to obscure the fur, or even (gasp!) retouched to remove the offending hair. Later magazine and online reprints were much bolder. Though when Ms. Lindeland went frontal, Playmate Playoffs (from the previous year) and such immediately did, too.
