The fact is that after some great British successes over the years we have bred an army of couch potatoes who expect masses of medals at every event. There will always be peaks and troughs, cheer up folks it's not the end of the world as we all know it. Surely a cast-iron medal is worth less than a bronze medal

It would take too long and some of the later group matches would just be played out with nothing at stake. Also, I'm certain the likes of the Premier League and La Liga would lobby their football associations. They want their "assets" to be fresh and fit for their day jobs. Seeding is earned and therefore relevant. Plus, you wouldn't want, for example, Germany, Argentina, Spain and Italy drawn in the same group. Personally, I think it should be a 32 team knock-out tournament based on seedings i.e. the top seed plays bottom seed and so on.

What's noticeable this week is what's not noticeable.
What happened to news about Syria? It's completely off the agenda. It is such a mess, no-one understands it and all nations are sullied by it. The whole sorry mess appears to have been swept under the carpet - here anyway. |

Grenfell Tower
Than we will starting with some older cases:
About two months after the tragedy: BBC: Grenfell Tower: A shadow over the capital Drive over London's Westway, and Grenfell Tower demands your attention. It is a black nail that has been hammered into the nation's conscience. In its shadow, the faces of the missing are everywhere - on lamp-posts and bus shelters, railings and walls. Unblinking they stare, it is hard to hold their accusatory gaze. A month after this appalling tragedy, we still don't know exactly who or how many people died at Grenfell Tower. Perhaps that tells us something about our fractured relationship with the people who lived there. ..... http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-40592626 The BBC shows in this report about the social tracks, but no word about the prosecutions of the justice. ------------------------------------------- The Independent: Grenfell: CPS says criminal charges with life terms could be brought against anyone found culpable 'There are a whole raft of offences against both individuals and possibly companies that we could be looking at depending what the evidence shows' The country’s most senior prosecutor has said that individuals found responsible for the Grenfell Tower fire could face lengthy prison sentences. Alison Saunders, the Director of Public Prosecutions, said that manslaughter by gross negligence were among the offences the Crown will consider if police uncover sufficient evidence, as she vowed to do everything in her power to see justice done for the victims. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a7881466.html The Independent matches my search, but it is to unspecific for my taste ("... we don't know any concrete stuff ..."). Only threats of the prosecutors doesn't help the case, if there isn't any action.
