Spider-Man: Homecoming
Dont go into this latest film version of the iconic Spider-Man looking for a mournful and somber Peter Parker / Spider-Man,this is a Spider-Man film with a BIG sense of humor. Tom Holland does a very good job in his portrayal of Peter Parker / Spider-Man even channeling Michael J Fox in a few scenes. He and the screen writers Jonathan Goldstein,John Francis Daley Jon Watts,Christopher Ford,Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers( wow all of these cooks in the kitchen and they actually made a coherent script !!!!) have captured the wonder of a teenager ,even what an adult would feel if they had super powers. They captured the feeling a teenager would have if he or she had a taste of a bigger world and wanted to leave the young adult world behind. Michael Keaton was excellent as Adrian Toomes / Vulture, displaying all the the right amounts of intimidating menace. There are great nods to pop culture, other Marvel legends, and the Marvel cinematic universe Marisa Tomei as May Parker does a fine job, some good jokes about how much younger she is in this version. The relationship between Liz Allan (Laura Harrier) and Peter had it's moments especially when it focused on Peter's tug of war between having a life and being a hero, but ends up in such an awkward place IMO The side characters got the short end of the stick in my opinion, they werent really fleshed out they would just say a line or two and they were gone I would still like to see what they come up with for Zendaya's M.J(?) Michelle(?) character. Some action sequences were fun and sleek, others were far to murky. Anyone worried about this being a Marvel Team Up movie featuring Iron-Man shouldnt because his appearances are just enough to satisfy. Im looking forward to part 2 Scale of 1-10 an 8 |

What`s weird is in real life once peace was agreed those two became such fast friends they were soon known as the chuckle brothers
I`m unable to directly link to the site I use as it gets automatically blocked. But hopefully from my previous posts you know which it is by now. So instead I`ll link the Trailer for this ,
Imagining tale of what might have happened if lifelong sworn enemies McGuinness and Paisley had shared a taxi ride together during the peace negotiations. That`s the plot really. It`s a comedy of sorts. Extremely well acted , particularly by the two leads. The chap who plays Tony Blair although only seen for a handful of minutes does a cringingly fine job too. Worthy of a watch

Soylent Green
Watched this the other night, must confess I didn't know much about the film but the missus said it's a classic
Made in 1973 but set in 2022, they really didn't go mad in trying to make it look set in the future. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070723/ Wouldn't have said it was the best film i've seen, and guessed the twist half way through the film, but still worth a watch. |

You can watch it in HD on 123h ulu.com
Hey Fellow Forum Fellas , do you like constant exposition and narration up the arse
Then this is the movie for you I lasted until Tommo McToothies grin got on my tits (Roughly twenty minutes in). Now am really just listening to it while doing about on here. Rather than watching it properly. As it`s such a dopey script with painting by numbers direction. Had heard this was hardly a stellar start to what`s meant to be a Dark Universe classic monster movie franchise. Hardly stellar is putting it mildly We've seen all this before many times and heard similar lines over and over again. There isn't a script here , despite four writers This is a rehash of overused ideas which have long become stale . Not to say it`s dread awful. But is deeply disappointing. Had high hopes of seeing quality reboots of Dracula , Wolfman and the like. If (If) they happen now will those films be as routine tedious as this ?. From all accounts the lion share of the blame for this one has to rest with Mr Interference here. Why was he in it anyway Feels a bit like Jack Reacher three at times to me. Here`s a novel idea how about having gone with a woman as lead and let her go up against the Mummy. There`s plenty of excellent actresses to choose from. Colour this as a wasted opportunity to hit the franchise ground running

Watched The Bank Job (2008) a Jason Statham film regarding a break in of a Lloyds Bank in 1971. An ok film, kinda believe the people involved in it would have murdered all of the robbers not just a few of them.
The Wiki points out many of the inaccurate statements made in the film. Two out of five stars on this one. |

Dark House (2014) aka Haunted
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1385543/ Nick has a weird gift, if he touches someone he sees how they will die, his mother is now living in an asylum, when she dies he learns he has inherited the old family home. When he travels to the nearest town he learns the house and town was washed away in a flood many years ago but a local legend states the house did not vanish but was just displaced by several miles. They go to visit the alleged site but things take a turn for the worse with not only the long haired stranger who lives in the house (Tobin Bell) but a group of hunched axe wielding freaks. If you think that is weird so far that's not even 1/4 way in and it gets even stranger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlH2ELLNHtw

For those of you who haven't seen 'The Mummy' I'd go further and say that "a rehash of overused ideas" is far too kind, 'Mummy' steals story strands and images wholesale from other films and uses them for no obvious reason I could see apart from 'hey it was good in **** so it'll be good in my film too'. WRONG! I'll not list them, I'll let one stand for all (warning, slight spoiler -as if this film could be spoiled): You remember in 'An American Werewolf in London' the dead and rotting friend who keeps on appearing to warn the surviving 'werewolf' friend? Stolen and plonked into 'Mummy' without even the serial numbers filed off. There were many other examples I'll not mention, mostly because if you're like me the only way you'll get any fun out of this film is by playing 'Spot The Steal'. I'm guessing Tom Cruise was brought in to give the film star appeal but all he did was unbalance it. I agree that a female protagonist might have worked better but whatever the sex someone 25 years younger than Cruise would have been more suitable. I don't hate Cruise, I've enjoyed some of his films over the decades, but his grinning & wisecracking schtick killed the sense of threat in the few suspenseful moments this film managed. Avoid

War (2007) (2nd time viewing - 11 years later) - Enjoyed It notably more this time around. - The ending ruined the experience the 1st time, knowing what was coming this time let me enjoy the rest without that shock tainting it. - There are no standout hand to hand fight scenes sadly, but the battle at the tea house was solid & the final sword fight was damn good. |
