US President Donald Trump has insisted he has the "complete power" to pardon people, amid reports he is considering presidential pardons for family members, aides and even himself.

A Democratic Party spokesman has called the reports "extremely disturbing".

The US authorities are probing possible collusion between the Trump team and Russia. Intelligence agencies think Russia tried to help Mr Trump to power.

Russia denies this, and the president says there was no collusion.

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Mr Trump and his team were looking at ways to pardon people close to him.

Presidents can pardon people before guilt is established or even before the person is charged with a crime.

Describing the reports as disturbing, Senator Mark Warner, a Democrat who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, said "pardoning any individuals who may have been involved would be crossing a fundamental line".

On Saturday, Mr Trump tweeted: "While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us. FAKE NEWS."

Mr Trump also attacked "illegal leaks" following reports his attorney general discussed campaign-related matters with a Russian envoy.

It is a shame. He should have persevered. He was on the way to becoming the greatest performance artist since Marcel Marceau. Of course, Sean Spicer's performance medium was the complete antithesis of Marcel Marceau, whose art depended on communication through silence. Sean Spicer's medium was noise without communication. Ironically, Marcel Marceau was fluent in a number of languages and served as an officer in the Free French Army after the Liberation, attached to George Patton's HQ as an interpreter. Perhaps, if it were now and not then, Marceau could have used both language and mime to interpret between Sean Spicer and the media.

That might happen if:

There is a smoking gun proving direct collusion between Mr Trump in person and the FSB or other Russian agencies in the project of influencing the outcome of the US presidential election.
And only then if enough Republican senators decide to cross the floor and vote with the Democrats to impeach the president.

Even then, you have to remember that the "conspiracy" consisted of digging out true facts about how shamefully and systematically the Democratic National Committee rigged their nomination contest to make absolutely sure that Bernie Sanders would lose and Hillary Clinton would win. Given that this is the substance of the story, I suspect there will be grass roots pressure on Democrat senators and that some of them might not support the impeachment.

That's what brought it to light...

I'm starting to believe that there's a lot of dirty money involved in our president and his family's business dealings linked to Russia and Russian criminal figures. I think that's what he is afraid is going to be uncovered. I hope this isn't the case for the sake of the office of president, but that's what I'm beginning to suspect.
