House majority leader to colleagues in 2016: 'I think Putin pays' Trump
McCarthy, Ryan

A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress - House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy - made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump," McCarthy, R-Calif., said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy's assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

Before the conversation, McCarthy and Ryan had emerged from separate talks at the U.S. Capitol with Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, who had described a Kremlin tactic of financing populist politicians to undercut Eastern European democratic institutions.

Trump saved his companies a lot of money by renegotiating debt. Many creditors have been screwed. He actually thought the US Government could do that. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/07/u...less.html?_r=0 I was of the opinion that he has given up on that idea, but who knows. His business plan of going into a lot of debt and either doing well and paying it back or doing bad and renegotiating does not seem usable by the US Treasury.

I don't believe he has ever personally declared bankruptcy.

When the World Is Led by a Child

At certain times Donald Trump has seemed like a budding authoritarian, a corrupt Nixon, a rabble-rousing populist or a big business corporatist.
But as Trump has settled into his White House role, he has given a series of long interviews, and when you study the transcripts it becomes clear that fundamentally he is none of these things.
At base, Trump is an infantalist. There are three tasks that most mature adults have sort of figured out by the time they hit 25. Trump has mastered none of them. Immaturity is becoming the dominant note of his presidency, lack of self-control his leitmotif.

First, most adults have learned to sit still.

Second, most people of drinking age have achieved some accurate sense of themselves, some internal criteria to measure their own merits and demerits.

Third, by adulthood most people can perceive how others are thinking.

Personal bankruptcy refers to a bankruptcy that is filed by an individual where majority of debts are non-business. Personal bankruptcy can be filed under Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. Chapter 7 bankruptcy involves liquidating the individual's assets and turning them over to the courts.

Default On what planet is Trump's America?

I get that Donald Trump doesn't know shit about the history of the country of which he is president, but he seems to have not been paying much attention to the events that have occurred during his lifetime either.

"Worst witch hunt in history"? Has Trump not heard "McCarthyism"? The Clarence Thomas Confirmation? Whitewater?

No special prosecutor for the Clintons? Uh, anyone remember Ken Starr?

Most unfairly treated politician in history? Ever heard of Gary Condit? Birthers? Swift-boaters? 911 Truthers? Bill Clinton, investigated for a land deal, gets busted for lying about a blowjob? I'd say that was unfair. And I guess Trump forgot about the way HE treats HIS political opponents!

Self-pity is unattractive in anyone: in a President it's positively pathetic. For all their faults, the last three presidents, in the midst of their shit-storms had enough self-respect not to whine about it.

I never necessarily said I thought the DEMS could win (or that their house was in order) if only Trump was impeached and Pence took over. I actually agree with Santee that if Trump were taken out, the Republicans would rally like never before and could probably strengthen and re-calibrate the GOP (would they not like that?). I want to see a Republican on one side (who is actually a conservative Republican), and a Democrat on the other (whether it will be a Dixiecrat or progressive, who knows). And from there, I want to see how the country chooses. If the "PC crowd" wants to close off the supposed big tent of the Democratic party, then that's their business. They'll fall or rise (probably fall) if they do it, we'll see. It'll still be a more coherent fight though, if all sides are free of Trump, who again is an empty vessel with thin skin.

I actually have some conservative beliefs as well, Brian. Just not the conspiratorial, agrarian, nativist type of beliefs found on some sides of the conservative spectrum.

And, yeah, the Democratic party ain't going nowhere if a decade later I'm still hearing leader Nancy Pelosi.
I started out with a joke, but then ruined it. Been having sleep problems this week. The point is that the Dems have the PC crowd and other loonies as a mirror image of the Tea Party & alt-right wing plaguing the Republicans.

Most of us grown ups adhere to a mix of beliefs. We tried to take the best from our parents and other elders and try to make the world a better place. We also understand that our principles and often conflict with each other and choices and compromises must be made.

Fear not, Nancy Pelosi is now 77 and will not be in office much longer. Barbara Boxer had sense enough to retire. 80 year old Jerry Brown is likely to follow her after the 2018 elections. It really is time for many of these old warhorses to head into the sunset. Orrin Hatch (83), John McCain (80), Mitch McConnell (75), Chuck Grassley (83), Patrick Leahy (77), and even Bernie Sanders (75) are others who have stuck around too long.

Both parties are struggling to find new blood. Leading contenders such as Ted Cruz, Mario Rubio, and Corey Booker make too many voters gag.

‘People are in meltdown mode.’ Inside the GOP donor class panic about Trump

Pangs of fear and frustration are rippling through the Republican donor and operative classes as Donald Trump’s self-inflicted wounds threaten to fully derail the GOP legislative agenda and tarnish the party’s brand headed into the midterms.

At a Miami donor retreat and at a high-powered Washington dinner, on Capitol Hill and at political firms across the country, Republican donors and operatives this week watched the barrage of bad headlines about Trump with a mixture of awe, angst and anger, worrying about the political implications for their Republican majorities—and about the legal implications for the president.

If the following is correct, I'm not surprised folks are in "meltdown mode"...

US President Donald Trump told Russian officials firing FBI director James Comey eased "great pressure", US media report.

Citing a document summarising the meeting, the New York Times said Mr Trump called Mr Comey a "real nut job".

Mr Comey had been running an inquiry into possible collusion between Russia and Donald Trump's election campaign.

The White House has not disputed the report.

Warning that leaks were undermining national security, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said "by grandstanding and politicising the investigation into Russia's actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia.

"The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it."

Meanwhile, the Washington Post reported that a current White House official is a significant person of interest in the investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The White House has denied there was collusion between the campaign and any "foreign entity".
