What are the most stupid or dumbest things you ever did as a child or as an adult?
I've got a feeling many will say getting married, and that's fine.
But one of my dumbest things happened as a child when I was about 4 or 5 years old. My mother was vacuuming the house, the phone rang and she turned off the vacuum and went to answer the phone in the other room. The vacuum must have looked like some big fancy toy to me ... I don't know what I was really thinking. While my mother was on the phone I dragged the vacuum into the bathroom 6-7 feet away from where she left it. I then stuck the hose into the toilet and turned on the vacuum! My mother hearing the vacuum turn on dropped the phone and came running just in time to pull me out of the bathroom and unplug the vacuum just as the toilet water started to emerge from the vacuum! I am lucky to be alive today and lucky not to have been electrocuted because vacuum housings were made out of metal back in those days and not plastic like they are today. If the metal vacuum didn't get me the wet floor surely would have if my mother had not come running in time! Last edited by cuzzyman927; December 11th, 2011 at 01:21 PM.. Reason: wording |

Then there was the time when I was about 9 years old and I must have thought that I was Charles Atlas (he was the muscleman of note and fame at that time back in my childhood years.)
I was in my grandmother's living room with my cousin Terri. I must have wanted to impress and show her that I could lift her up. I proceeded to do so, and when getting her about 2 feet off the ground I suddenly lost my balance, She fell harmlessly to the floor and unscathed, but I fell forward and hit my mouth right on the square corner of my grandmother's coffee table, putting a large gash in the lower part of my top lip! It instantly started to bleed like crazy and would not stop bleeding. It actually needed stitches but I begged my parents not to bring me to the doctor. They put ice wrapped in a wet face towel on it, and after about an hour it finally stopped bleeding. Later that night when going to bed my lip must have bled a little more in my sleep overnight because when I awoke in the morning I could not open my mouth because the blood had dried and sealed my mouth shut. My mother had to use very warm water to dissolve the coagulated blood and free my stuck lips until I was able to open my mouth! That's what I got for trying to be a showoff -- I never tried that maneuver again! Luckily and thankfully the scar faded over the years and became barely detectable. When I was young me and my friend had an eating binge, we drank Cresta(BIG mistake) and ate chocolate, sweets, various packets of crisps and flavours for about 5 hrs on and off-that afternoon & evening we were both violently sick-quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever done or will ever do in my life.

What do they say to little children when crossing the road ? Stop, look and listen.
I neglected to do all three and just ran across the traffic light crossing next to my junior school in a rush to get home and catch some television. Sent some twenty feet from the point of impact luckily onto the pavement. Burst out laughing according to the female driver apparently either from the shock and pain. Luckily the lights had been turning to amber and the car was already slowing down. Taken to the local hospital, X rayed and apart from a badly bruised hip right as rain. My mother was half in tears of relief and half in anger at having neglected to look at the traffic. Dad was more kind about the whole thing and suffice it to say I have been always far more cautious when crossing the road since then. |
