Wendigo, stop watching films on fast forward, learn to enjoy them the way they were made to be shown, actually some of your lesser choices, may probably be best on fast forward and on mute

These are the films I saw today from Netflix. The first is a spanish language film called Compadres. I don't know any of the actors, and it is hard to follow because of the english subtitles. It is basically an action comedy, but I cannot recommend it.

The second film is based on actual events in 1970 when Elvis Presley visited with
President Richard Nixon. Michael Shannon plays Elvis, and the marvelous Kevin Spacey plays Nixon. It is quite a good film. It comes off rather comical, although I thought that even with heavy makeup the actor Michael Shannon bears little resemblance to Elvis Presley, whereas Spacey not only looks similar to Nixon, but his mannerisms were done to perfection. A very well produced film.

Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie (1972)

Even toward the end of his long presence in film, Buñuel's creativity remained inexhaustible. This surrealistic satire is a mockery of the so-called High Society and its ridiculous and ritualistic customs. The bourgeois society is a frequent topic in his pictures.

Six members of the upper middle-class attempt to dine together but their gathering is repeatedly delayed or disrupted by bizarre events. The group is composed of two couples, the young Florence (Bulle Ogier) and Rafael Acosta (Fernando Rey), the ambassador of the fictitious Republic of Miranda who is repeatedly confronted with unpleasant questions about human rights violations in his country. But many of the events happen in the characters' dreams. One of them even dreams what another one dreams. It's hard to summarize the plot as it doesn't appear to follow the usual conventions of storytelling for Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie is a concatenation of surreal scenes but this method has proven itself useful for the communication of Buñuel's central message.

The Park Is Mine (1985)

This Canadian television production is basically Rambo in Central Park. I'm not sure if this was filmed in New York because it's not mentioned in the end credits in which the producers express their gratitude to the City of Toronto instead. Quite odd for a Canadian TV network to produce the adaptation of a second-rate novel written by some American guy. Much of the acting and dialogues are disastrous but at least the music by Tangerine Dream makes this a bearable experience.

The opening starts with the suicide of a desperate Vietnam veteran Mike (Eric Peterson) who is dying of cancer. He leaves a farewell note for his friend and fellow veteran Mitch (Tommy Lee Jones) in which he reveals his plan to take over the Central Park to speak for all the veterans who were forgotten by their country. What Mitch learns is that his friend already arranged everything: the area has been scouted and a provision camp with arms was set up. But Mike doesn't beg Mitch to pick up his plan, saying that "it's up to him" and that he'd understand if Mitch decides to refrain from doing it. Since Mitch's life isn't exactly better (broke, unemployed, separated from his wife), he decides to make some noise as his friend intended...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again (2016)

(currently on SKY Cinema)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1267299/

I agree with those who panned this remake for being too squeaky-clean. It feels like watching a end-of-term production with the students from "Fame".
All the anarchy from the original is gone, I'm afraid.
I won't be watching this version again - stick to the 1975 movie instead.

This ,

Is an excellent (True story) film whose balance is just right between the actions of the Irish soldiers on the ground. To the fuckwitts of the career politicians at the UN with their heads up their corrupt backsides causing mayhem and appointing blame at anybody other than themselves.

A Hologram for the King

This is a good movie based on a best selling novel starring Tom Hanks as an American businessman for a high tech IT company trying to sell a unique type of holographic technology to a Saudi Arabia business group which is going to build a tremendous new city not to open until the year 2025. There are many ups and downs, and Hanks has to go through a lot of trouble to try to sell his pitch to the Saudis.

The Grudge (2004)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0391198/

It opens with a suicide and a spooky killing and an odd intro about a supposed curse that makes no real sense. Sarah Michelle Gellar is an American nurse working in Tokyo, on a routine call to look after an old woman whose previous carer has vanished she finds one of those spooky Japanese kids taped up in a closet

The Keep (1983)

An atmospheric but boring horror picture with a flat story. It is Michael Mann's second feature film, starring Scott Glenn, Jürgen Prochnow and Ian McKellen. Watching this film wasn't something I had planned. I had the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream (who had previously written the music for Mann's Thief), so it made me curious about the movie which turned out as a waste of time.

The "Keep" is a fortress in a remote Romanian village. No one knows who built it and to what purpose but the villagers serve as its guardians. It is World War II and the Germans under the command of Capt. Klaus Woermann (Jürgen Prochnow) have arrived to explore the fortress, believing it could make them rich and powerful or something like that. But even after one of the villagers warns them to stay out of the citadel-like fortress and to leave the T-shaped crosses (supposedly made of nickel) alone, some German soldiers couldn't resist and had to try to steal one of the crosses they believed was made of silver. Instead of becoming rich, they end up killed by a demon who goes on to kill mor soldiers day by day. Following those incidents, a SS Einsatzkommando led by the sadistic Sturmbannführer Eric Kaempffer (Gabriel Byrne) arrives. He believes the German soldiers were killed by partisans and starts shooting villagers, accusing them of collaboration. But as it becomes obvious that they're dealing with a demonic force, the only way to solve the mystery is to consult Dr. Theodore Cuza (Ian McKellen), a Jewish scholar who is in a concentration camp...

The Grudge 2 (2006)

A follow up to the original set 2 years after, the opening scene should be a reminder to all just to say thank you if your breakfast is made for you
