On Darelle Revis: I saw Woody Johnson (Jets owner) on TV talking about he doesn't think Revis will play this year. I just have to laugh . I don't feel all of the drama because they're not my team. The way I see it, Revis will hold out for a few more weeks & then settle on the $12 Million or so that the Jets are offering. That number might go up, but there's no way Revis sits out an entire year. Not when The Jets are legitimate contenders for a Super Bowl. But, I have to lay a lot of the blame here on Jets management. The front office as well as Rex Ryan (Head Coach) have been telling anybody who would listen that Revis is not only the best Cornerback in the NFL, but the best player overall. That's symbolic of a rookie loud mouth Head Coach. Every time he opens his mouth he hurts his team, whether he's saying they're going to beat the Dolphins both times they play this year, or he says they're going to win the Super Bowl, or he hypes his own players. If you're a Head Coach in this current NFL economic climate, you just can't hype your players that much. They're going to want to get paid. It works the other way too. Teams have put out bad press about certain players to drive down their market value. Bottom line: Keep your fat mouth shut. On Shaq: This is just pathetic as far as I'm concerned. He was done 2 years ago. He's the single most destructive force I've ever seen in the NBA. Coaches invented the Hack-a-Shaq defense to try to contain him. But, that was a long time ago. He can't stay healthy for an entire year anymore. I've heard rumors that he tried to follow LeBron to Miami, but they wanted no part of him. He then goes & settles on Boston just to try & win 1 more ring. Qwerty my brother, I hear you loud & clear about them going head to head with Miami, but I just can't root for the Celtics. I can't root for anything having to do with Boston at all. If this was the latter half of the 18th century I would have rooted for the British soldiers at The Boston Massacre rather than root for Bostonites ! I guess I'll be a closet Lakers fan again this year . On Brett Farve: I was sitting there watching TV the day ESPN reported he was going to retire, even though he had made no official announcement. The thing is, even if he did announce his retirement who would believe him? Then sure enough the sports media look like jackasses the next day when Farve says he never said anything about it either way. The fact that he hasn't called it quits at this point, tells me he's going to play. He just wants his ankle to feel completely healthy before making up his mind. But wouldn't it be wonderful if the political media jumped on stories (or non stories in this case) like this? Imagine if all the major networks reported this way during the run up to the Iraq War.... |

I agree with grossnex that Revis will make a stand for awhile but will eventually sign a contract. I understand why he is doing what he is doing but I side with the Jets if they decide to play hard ball.
Shaq doesn't bother me. If teams think he can still play and want to sign him I say he should be able to do that. With Kendrick Perkins coming back from knee surgery maybe Shaq can spell him and play only 15-20 minutes a night. If they rely on him for 30-35, they are in big trouble. Now Brett Favre....the great manipulator. He sends out one e-mail and basically juices the Vikings for an extra 7 million dollars this year. The moment they heard this latest "retirement" the Vikes upped his salary in an attempt to make sure he plays this year. Favre worked them like a one armed paper hanger. He's coming back, he just doesn't want to come to camp and he has the Vikes at his complete mercy. Now as a Vikes fan his behavior kind of bothers me but I realize that he is our best chance to win. The organization realizes that too. He is worth it and he has brought in tremendous revenue and media spotlight for the Vikes. But like everyone, I'm getting sick of all of this crap!!!! Just say you're coming back, pick a date and be done with it!!! It's becoming very frickin' old. |

...you are singing my song. What really pisses me off as well, is when I hear people (usually players) saying "...schools make millions of dollars off of our (insert sport) program and players don't see a dime" Last time I looked, it cost normal kids' parents upwards of $50k for a good school, but these idiots view it (and the education) as getting 'nothing'. Just goes to show you where people lay their priorities, eh? Welcome to the thread...we'll expect regular Sixers, Eagles, Flyers and Phillies updates from you (or was it all over when the Doc left?) |

Caldwell Jones was on the team until the 82-83 season, when he and
Darryl Dawkins departed to make room for Moses Malone. and then that 76'ers team went on to sweep the Lakers in the Finals! but that's the only team from Philly I ever followed. truth be told, I'm a Vikings fan! |

Ok guys, this 1 is going to get bounced foul, but I'm hoping to rip a line drive up the middle later in the post . Bryce Harper, the 1st pick overall in baseball signed with the Washington Nationals for a 5 year $9.9M deal yesterday. He gets a $6.25 million signing bonus in five equal payments of $1.25 million 30 days after approval and each July 1 from 2011 through 2014. I have to applaud MLB for their system of signing unproven amateur talent. Considering he's a 17 year old kid & he'll probably spend a good chunk of that money on buying his parents a new house & car etc., I don't think that this a crazy amount of money to spend. What say you?
Anyway, (Ready for that liner up the middle? ) I think that the rest of the pro sports leagues should take a look at this financial structure. As we know, the NFL pays rookies like they've actually won the big 1, when all they've done is put together an impressive amateur resume. The NBA is slightly less rewarding, but they also go out on a limb & hand amateurs a King's ransom when they're drafted in the 1st round. I've always equated this practice to handing a CEO salary to a 20 something year old kid with a business degree. MLB pays by far the most lucrative contracts to veteran players, with the whole contract being guaranteed money. But, I think they offset all that craziness with a fiscally conservative attitude when dealing with unproven talent. Just curious as to what you guys are thinking about it? Sorry to pull that 1st idea foul, but the ball girl gave the ball to a kid in the front row, so it's all good. |
