James Cowton - motorcycle racer.
James Cowton - motorcycle racer - has been killed in the final race of the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man.
Report here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/44815725 This one is personal to me as James lived locally (to me) and I used to go racing with his dad, Fran Cowton, back in the day.... Both were regular visitors to the bike club I belong to. James was a really nice guy... Here's hoping all the others involved in the incident make a speedy recovery. RIP James... |

It has been reported by the BBC that the author of the children's classic novel "Stig of the Dump", Clive King has died at his home in Norfolk, he was 94.
Stig of the Dump was first published in 1963 and has never been out of print having sold over 2 million copies. (I had one) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stig_of_the_Dump

Sad to hear about Ray Emery's death. He was a colorful character, and his pugnacious nature will not soon be forgotten. When there is a fight in the NHL, most goalies stand quietly at their blue line, and do not wade into the fray. Not so with Ray . . .

Japanese pro wrestler Masa Saito has died at the age of 76 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Saito has wrestled in some of the biggest wrestling promotions in the world. Born in Tokyo in 1942, he competed in freestyle wrestling for Japan in the 1964 Summer Olympics where he placed seventh. He began his professional wrestling career in 1965. Throughout his career, Saito wrestled in NWA, the WWF, AWA, WCW, NJPW and other promotions. He gained the nickname "Mr. Torture" for his punishing style. Saito also innovated the Saito Suplex. In addition to his wrestling career, Saito gained some notoriety from an incident in 1984 when Ken Patera was blamed for throwing a rock through the window of a McDonalds. When police showed up at Patera and Saito's hotel room, both wrestlers assaulted the officers and were sentenced to serve two years in prison for battery of a police officer. Saito retired from wrestling in 1999. His last match was a loss to Scott Norton. In 2006 he worked with the Diamond Ring promotion as a supervisor and manager/advisor to the promotion's younger talent until its last show in 2014.
