In France two gay brothers or gay sisters can't marry together.

Well, it's still weird.

Do European folk actually consider such things? I thought marrying your sister was basically an American hillbilly phenomenon, confined to Appalachia and parts of the South.

It seems that in all European countries you only can marry if you are cousins of the first degree.

No countries allow the marriage between brother and sister.

I think even first cousins would be a little too close, if you wanted to keep your gene line truly healthy.

Too much cousin marrying and you end up with descendants like this:

Do not forget that there was a lot of consanguinity in the past all around the world.
I suppose that the ancesters who looked like your example were unable to reproduce their genes with a partner, but their healthiest siblings could.

There still are areas on this planet in which there is a huge proportion of consanguinity.
