Blocked in Australia! Unless you view by a proxy server.
Hmmm, "Roxy by Proxy", wonder what that's like?

Seriously the Mothers 'Roxy & Elsewhere' (the original) would/should rate highly as an all time favourite live album as it contains previously unreleased material honed to perfection.

btw, the guitar solo on the "One Size Fits All" version was 'extracted' from the
live version on "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 2", and edited into
the song. FZ's studio trickery at work. who does that kind of stuff anymore?

agreed! pound for pound, that was his best touring band. I love the big horns
1988 band, and I love the vocals from the 1980 band, but this lineup was a
jazz ensemble playing Frank's tunes. they were so well rehearsed, and there
was nothing beyond their capabilities. George Duke, Bruce, Walt, and Tom
Fowler, Ruth Underwood, Ralph Humphrey and Chester Thompson on drums,
and Napoleon Murphy Brock, and others, of course. but damn! just, damn.

I have the vinyl bought in 1980 if I remember well, and the solo is the original. Different from the live version.

well... Yes and No.

I got this information about the guitar solos from the liner notes of the OSFA
Rykodisc CD. I just listened to the 2 versions side by side using 2 devices, and
the solo is note for note, the same. the only difference occurs with about 30
seconds left, obviously, as one song is live and the other is studio. the tempo
is slightly quicker on YCDTOSA V2, and the guitar sound itself is a bit different.

I would bet all the money in the World that FZ never played a guitar solo the
same way twice. listen to them side by side, and you'll 'hear' what I'm saying.

Think I might have read this on one of the reissues, but he did that so often, I imagine he'd have (had) a tape archive to parallel Neil Young's of every show he ever played.

I dunno why but when reading your post I thought of the transcription for a brass section, of the guitar solo in ("Best Band...") live cover of Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven"

That was wicked sick!

Great info thanks ballyhoo. BTW I saw a Austrian documentary on him , in the end we were in his "vault". He said there was dozens and dozens of records session . A treasure. Shall we be able to listen to , one day?

Yes.. long history of that. Case in point:

I was digging through a box of old CDs and came across this:

Jean-Luc Ponty: "Imaginary Voyage"

Reminded me of a lot of the subtle things you'd hear in the back of FZ's recordings.. like violin, and xylophone. And sound effects...

Terrible unlistenable pseud. Hugely overrated, especially by himself.

One man's Uncle Meaty unlistenable pseud is another man's Poison.
So it goes.
Some think one is great, others that they grate.
There's no error counting for taste.
