Oh I dunno, these Olympics are shaping up a lot better than I expected less than 2 weeks ago when the G4S fiasco was upon us. Hopefully we won't allow the feel good factor to deflect us from dealing with G4S in a really exemplary manner. But I see no reason to look down upon the British womens football team if they do well in this competition.
Did anyone notice that three Sudenese athletes have asked for political asylum after failing to qualify in their heats? Maybe the government of Sudan aren't very good losers?

I have now managed to watch the opening ceremony. I was shock by the satanic imagery. Demons snatching kids from hospital beds notice how the flood lights are pyramids and the mascots have one eye. And just like Bejing if you rearrange the official logo it spells zion. Look at the logo, what is the square for or mean? Nothing, except a square dot over the eye in zion.

I'm just relieved that the opening ceremony didn't have a fireworks display of Ranald McDonald, rampant. The tackiness of the sponsors has been conspicuous and I am hoping they will find their corporate brand is tarnished rather than enhanced by their exploitative behaviour in these Olympics.

The closing ceremony may well have a longer fireworks display but I find it odd that you can't see the flame high up as other Olympic Games have shown-still we wanted to be different so there you go-each country will take one pod home at the end anyway as a souvenir.
Throughout children's literature BB you find a dark undertone going on-rather than satanic, it is mostly good v evil which you get even in many, many stories like Treasure Island, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and yes Harry Potter-mind you that blow up of Voldemort looked nothing like him and I always thought the Child Catcher was scarier-especially when depicted by Sir Robert Helpmann in the film. Those hospital beds will be given to children in Africa so I read once they've been de-wired and unlit. Let's face it even Snow White & Bambi have dark moments-my Dad remembers running out of the cinema chased by his mum when the Witch appeared in it and surely the shooting of Bambi's mother is the most heart-breaking scene in a cartoon for kids to witness-although it is not actually seen. Anyway kids like to be scared otherwise they wouldn't dress up as witches, ghouls and Buzz Lightyear on Hallowe'en

Of course GM. Indoctrinate the young is policy. I mean look at Harry Potter whats with the pyramids? And one eyed mascot? Notice how the cap stone is not in place, just like the imagery on the US 1 dollar bill. What have demons got to do with sport, nothing. View it again, it is sinister.

I didn't see any pyramids to be honest but it wasn't supposed be to sporty, it was a depiction of British literature to showcase the most famous children's stories - sport hasn't been a part of an opening ceremony and neither should it, it's about promoting the country and learning it's history hence the Industrial Revolution and then the musical journey etc. Demons? I assume you refer to the black shadows on wires-I think they were supposed to be nightmares which is why the kids hid under their duvets reading their books by torchlight-it's well known that if you hide under a duvet no demon or evil spirit can touch you-well you believe that if you're a kid. Look at films next time, the heroine always dives under the covers hiding-but we know she's not got long before the finger of fate touches her-ooooooooh no missus!!
Mascots Mandeville and Wenlock have one eye yes, but they are supposed to be camera lenses and possibly based on mobile phones but lots of kids find them cuddly. I saw one strapped on the back of a police motorcycle a week ago when the Torch Relay and flame came this way-one woman yelled out 'hey! that's cool" and kids cheered so it can't be that bad. Kids like to be scared and think there are monsters under the bed or in the wardrobe don't they-a little bit of horror in one's life can't hurt-it's overt horror and violence that does the damage and like Disney cartoons good always triumphs over evil as it does in Harry Potter and even Mole, Ratty, Toad and Badger against the Weasels in T'he Wind in the Willows' one of my favourites as a child.
