It wasn't invaded, because Russian troops were allowed by Treaty to be there. All they did was hold a referendum, which was won by about 98% against 2%; and they asked the 17,000 or so Ukrainian troops to leave, which they did without firing a shot. All's well that ends well

It seems you really do need a history lesson, my friend, because Finland fought three wars during WW2. But it's not a crime not to know this. Few are aware of it, and there are no good sources in English that I know of

The war you're referring to was the Winter War 11/1939 - 3/1940, in which Finland fought against USSR. The Finns were very brave, but lost, and they had to give up territory. USSR were the aggressors, and this is the part you were right about

The second was the Continuation War (1941 - 1944) in which the Finns fought on the side of the Germans, hence "co-belligerents". But unlike the Germans, the Finns did not have the same war aims and only wanted to regain their lost territory. At first they did win most of it back, and the front went very quiet. Until 1944 when USSR was on the offensive everywhere, including Finland. There followed the biggest battle in Nordic history, and there could only be one winner. In the peace Treaty, the Finns agreed to eject all German forces from their territory

That Treaty led to the Lapland War (1944 - 1945) against Germany, which the Finns actually did win. This famous pic shows the last day of the war, April 28, 1945

May's backbenchers are going to vote against her scheme but it looks like the DUP who backed her so she could govern as PM are not at all happy that she is ignoring N.Ireland for Ireland AND Nicola Sturgeon is not happy either that she might ignore Scotland-it is a perilous tightrope she walks with a massive drop either side that could end her PM-ship and see this country back to square one-ill thoughtout, lied to the country with her ludicrous statements and even more ludicrous politicians(yes I mean Boris and Osborne, Hammond etc) and the people will NOT be happy at all. Brexit as we were told it would be could be dead in the water and the EU will be laughing itself silly. I incidentally voted to keep things as they were-I still think we could have negotiated something whilst still IN. Who knows what will happen. We won't know for a while yet.
